It does not seem very debatable that one of the most fashionable actors these years is the British Tom Holland (b. 1996). The roles with which she has dared in recent seasons have guaranteed her to be in the spotlight of moviegoers and the specialized film press. But his meteoric career began with his role as Lucas Bennett in the Spanish film The impossible (JA Bayona, 2012), and has been establishing it until reaching its Nathan Drake’s Uncharted (Rubén Fleischer, 2022).
But he has achieved total fame for having been chosen to get into the skin of Peter Parker in the Marvel Cinematic Universewhich until now has included him in the films Captain America: Civil War (Joe and Anthony Russo, 2016), Spider-Man: Homecoming (Jon Watts, 2017), Avengers: Infinity War Y end game (Russo Brothers, 2018, 2019), Spider-Man: Far From Home Y No Way Home (Watts, 2019, 2021).
And, before and in the meantime, it has also been Eddie’s voice in loke (Steven Knight, 2013), the Thomas Nickerson of in the heart of the sea (Ron Howard, 2015), Jack Fawcett in Z: the lost city (James Gray, 2016), Ian Lightfoot’s vocal chords for Onwardsthe Arvin Russell of The devil at all hours (Dan Scanlon, Antonio Campos, 2020) or the protagonist of Cherry (Russo Brothers, 2021). And we are supposed to soon see him playing Fred Astaire in the biopic about his late colleague and dancer.
From Peter Parker in ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ to Nathan Drake in ‘Uncharted’
“First I played Nathan Drake andthen peter parker. Filmed Uncharted before Spider-Man: No Way Home”, Tom Holland pointed out in an interview for hypertextual despite the fact that the order in the premiere of the two features has been reversed. “And both [personajes] are very different. Nathan Drake is very confident, incredibly brave, and he even stands tall. [Al encarnarle]I have a different posture and physicality”.
His new movie, of course, is the big screen adaptation of the famous Naughty Dog video game (2007-2017), and the English actor really likes it. “I’m a big fan of Uncharted. Yes, the game was something that I really enjoyed, ”he tells us. “I played it while filming Spider-Man: Homecoming and, when I was playing it, it was pretty obvious that it would be a fantastic movie. You know, because of its cinematic look, its convincing look. It was pretty cool.”
Likewise, Tom Holland likes to work with director Ruben Fleischerwhich has other films to its credit, such as the two parts of zombieland (2009, 2019) or Venom (2018). “He is a wonderful friend of mine, a brilliant collaborator. The way he allowed us to Mark [Wahlberg] and me improvising on set… Really everything was left to bring this movie to life”, assures Tom Holland. “His ability to tell a story is fantastic, and he’s not afraid to dream big. When you watch this movie, you can understand what kind of drama it is because it is quite huge.”
“ANDI’m under a lot of scrutiny and a lot of pressure. Butyou know, I think I handle it well”, admits the young interpreter. “I really enjoy my work with people I admire and respect. All opinions and criticisms are something I appreciate. I am not that class of person I’m not that sensitive when it comes to what people think of my work. But I accept criticism. If someone has to say something about me and I agree with it, I will take it into account. And if I’m not, I won’t. So I’m pretty insensitive in that regard.”
On the other hand, it was impenetrable to talk to Tom Holland about the big issue that concerns him: “The truth is that I don’t know what the future of Spider-Man will be like”, he admits. “I really believe in this character and the integrity of him, and I just want to do another [película] if it serves him the way he deserves.”
“It might be time for me to step down and allow the next lucky person to step up so the franchise can take a new turn. Or maybe it’s time for it to continue,” he tells us. “So at the moment, I just don’t know. It’s been a bit difficult to talk about it in the press. Because everyone wants to know and I don’t know. So I’m the worst person to ask. So you should call [la productora] Amy Pascal and ask her.”
The possibility of James Bond and Tom Holland’s favorite director
Also, as Tom Holland is in the limelight as possible James Bond, we should ask him about the matter. “It would be so much fun. He’s kind of a British icon. I am a young British actor, a lover of cinema, so it would be a wonderful opportunity to play that character,” he acknowledges. “I would love the idea of bringing something new to a character we all know and love. It’s something I’ve already done twice [con Spider-Man y Nathan Drake en Uncharted]so maybe in the years to come… But, at the moment, I don’t know”.
And, if the actor had to mention a filmmaker whose filmography especially enchants him, he has no doubt. “I love bong joon ho. I think it’s wonderful ”, he affirms, he affirms about the person in charge of Memories of Murder (2003), mother (2009), Snowpiercer (2013) or the Oscar-winning parasites (2019). “I recently had the pleasure of meeting him, and I have been with him before. He is someone who I think has a big heart. He has not been corrupted by Hollywood. He is a fabulous director, and I love all of his work. So probably he’s at an altar right now for me.”
