For some time now, it is increasingly common to come across kitchen Recipes for which we only need a single utensil in which we incorporate all the necessary ingredients to achieve our goal. Which is none other than getting to have it in the shortest possible time, and dirtying the minimuma really tasty dish as well as healthy.
And one of the main culprits for this becoming increasingly popular among cooks from all over the world is our friend Jamie Oliver. Once again, it has been he who has decided to take a step forward to delight ourselves with quick preparationsfor which very advanced knowledge of cooking is not needed, and in which there is no shortage of tips and resources that will allow us to puff out our chests in front of our guests.
From dishes with vegetables as protagonists to irresistible desserts and cakes that, obviously, will not be cooked in a pan but in an oven, which, after all, is also a single appliance.
Goal: make your life easier
Dare with this challenge now become a trend only has advantagesand we are not only referring to the fact that it will take a while to leave the pan or casserole on duty like the streams of gold. That also. Here are some of the positive aspects that we see in this way of cooking:
Few ingredients: As a general rule, if you are going to use a single cooking utensil, the most normal thing is that you will not need a large number of products. In fact, in the case of Jamie Oliver’s new recipe book, which we will talk about below, each preparation requires a maximum of 8 ingredients (sometimes less), which translates into savings for our pocket. And that is always appreciated.
Energy and food waste: By using a single pan or casserole you will be helping to reduce both the use of electricity such as food waste, two issues that are increasingly worrying us and to which we can solve through small gestures like the one at hand.
You will also save time: if you have the mise en place ready in advance, it will not take more than 15 or 30 minutes in having ready many of the dishes that are usually framed within the “one-pot recipes” or “one-pot meals”. In this sense, fans of batch cooking, which basically consists of cooking in a few hours for the whole week, will especially appreciate it.
So now you know what you have to answer when they ask you what would you take to a deserted island: a pan! With that, and with the survival manual that we present below, you will have enough to survive a season (as long as the island is within the nearest Amazon delivery area).
‘One’, Jamie Oliver’s new hit
If this Christmas you come face to face with a book in which the word ‘One’ appears occupying practically the entire cover, you should know that this is not a tribute to the Metallica song, nor even to the anthem that U2 popularized in the early 90s. What you have in front of your eyes is the best -and probably the only one- dedicated to art of one-pot cooking. There is nothing.
One. A container. Easy recipes: A container. Easy Recipes / Simple One-Pan Wonders (Signature Kitchen)
Jamie Oliver’s brand new book is riddled with inexpensive dishes that can be cooked at any time, and that ranges from delicious homemade lunches to quick dinners designed for the whole family. Keeping in mind, it never hurts to remember it, the healthy component (70% of the recipes could be eaten daily and 65% do not carry meat) of the selected dishes.
Among our favorites are the ‘Juicy Chicken Tahini’, the ‘Messy Burger’the ‘Hasselback Eggplant Pie’ and ‘Soft croissant cake’. These are very original and satisfying recipes in which flavor is always very present. So, at this point, we recognize that we are already part of that group of One-Pan Wonders that is gaining new fans every day.
The pasta in the pan
If there is an elaboration that stands out above all, both for the wide range of options it offers and for the excellent results obtained in most cases, that is it. pan pasta. Hence, Mr. Oliver has dedicated an entire chapter in his new recipe book to this cooking that he has served to go on pulling the thread until he has collected more than 120 recipes in total.
And there are many dishes that can be carried out using a frying pan, a little olive oil and a handful of pasta: from the addictive ‘Pappardelle with sausages’ to the classic ‘Carbonara with mushrooms’, passing through the seafood ‘Pasta fagioli with mussels’.
Something that we also found very curious in this section is that you do not work with pasta to use the kind that we all have at home, but rather with fresh sheets of lasagna that we will have to adapt according to each dish. The good news is that you won’t have to go crazy having to buy different types of pasta, just have the classic lasagna sheets!

It should be noted that it is worth being a little careful when cutting the sheets so that the result is what we expect. You already know that, as a general rule, rushing is not good in the kitchen, and in this case even less so.
