Global soccer superstar Cristiano Ronaldo has signed an exclusive multi-year partnership to launch non-fungible tokens (NFTs) with cryptocurrency exchange Binance. The collaboration aims to bring football fans into the Web 3.0 ecosystem through global NFT campaigns.
In the announcement shared with Cointelegraph, Binance noted that the deal involves the creation of a series of NFT collections with Ronaldo. These will be sold exclusively on Binance NFT, with the first collection coming out later this year.
Changpeng Zhao, CEO and founder of Binance praised Ronaldo’s achievements in football, mentioning that the athlete has “transcended sports to become an icon in various industries.” Zhao also said that:
“He has established one of the most dedicated fan bases in the world through his authenticity, talent and charity work.”
Zhao added that the Binance team is delighted to offer Ronaldo fans “exclusive opportunities to connect with Ronaldo” by owning pieces from the NFT collections. For his part, the soccer superstar has also commented on the upcoming NFT auctions, stating that fans will surely enjoy them. Ronaldo also explained:
“My relationship with fans is very important to me, so the idea of bringing unprecedented experiences and access through this NFT platform is something I wanted to be a part of.”
In March of last year, Ronaldo was awarded crypto-tokens for his achievements in sports. The Portuguese star received JUV tokens, the official Juventus FC fan token, for every goal he scored in his career.
Despite the current crypto winter, the CEO of Binance expressed his positivity in early June. Confidently, Zhao noted that it is their third crypto winter and Binance’s second encounter with this type of market situation, implying that the team knows how to navigate a bear market. Apart from this, the CEO of Binance said that they are going to use this period as an opportunity to hire the best talent that is available.
