Warzone 2.0 will launch tomorrow, though you can start pre-loading now so you don’t have to wait to download the game. The new Call of Duty Battle Royale maintains the essence of the previous one, but brings some changes in mechanics, gameplay and, above all, in QoLto simplify the experience.
The first and most important change that you are going to find in Warzone 2.0 is mobility. Infinity Ward has changed the movement system. The game will be slower, more leisurely. It’s over slide cancelthe bunny hop and the absurd movements of the first game. This supposes a gameplay slower, but also a reduction in the Skill Gapthat is, it will be a little easier for players who do not use these types of mechanics.
And change the backpack. The Battle Royale features, according to Activision, a backpack that works in a more passive way, as an additional place for equipment, armor plates and other small items, that is, more space to carry more equipment. Even several of the same type: 3 autorevive and 2 airstrikes, for example.
Another new addition is the interrogation system: interacting with a downed enemy player will reveal the locations of all their allies via pings red dots on the minimap, as well as contours in the environment (such as a vision grenade), for a short period of time. But they are not the only big changes.
Looting and circle collapse in Warzone 2.0
Having this clear, the core of the Battle Roya remains the same: jump out of the plane, loot and kill the rest of the players. However, in each of the elements there are modifications. Warzone 2.0 maintains the loadouts, but they can not be bought in the store. You will only be able to acquire a personalized main weapon, the rest and the perkscan only be achieved in two ways:
- Clearing a Fortress, once they are available. It will be the fastest way, although the rest of the players will be warned and there will be an AI inside that will have to be defeated.
- Loadout Drop: There will be a public event where the loadouts are released, but unlike the first game, they will be for all players, so you will have to fight for them.
Another of the big changes has to do with the dynamics of the circles. In some games, the circle collapse will behave as normal, like in the first Warzone: a circle that closes in several stages. However, in other games, the circle collapse can split into multiple circles, up to three in some cases, at any time between the first and last collapse. Several circles that little by little will converge into one until the end of the game, which can even overlap or separate again.
new gulag
The gulag is also diametrically shape-shifting. now it will be 2v2, so the game will randomly match you with another downed operator. All players will receive a pistol or shotgun, a lethal grenade and a tactical grenade, but there will be weapons and equipment that we can loot. Whoever defeats the other team wins.
Nevertheless, when a while passes without winning the gulag, a Jailer will appear. This one will have more health than the players, as well as a machine gun. The good news is that taking out the Jailer instead of the opposing players returns all four Gulag participants back to the game, so opposing players can gang up on taking down the jailer via the open mic instead of fighting each other.
Matchmaking system and squads
Another of the big changes that Warzone 2.0 brings is the new squad and ping system. Now the squad system will have more filters when you don’t play with friends or there aren’t enough of you in the game, both in DMZ and in Battle Royale, and you can choose between:
- Voice chat, text chat, Ping
- Up to 3 language preferences
- Play style: competitive, informal, by objectives…
The Ping system has also been changed, now including a Ping Tactical Wheel. In both Battle Royale and DMZ, the Ping command can be held down to display eight options via custom images and voice lines: a general Ping, Attack Here, Observe Here, Loot Here, Rally Here, Stay Silent, Help Needed, etc.
