After nearly a decade in development, the story of the spooky Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza animatronics has finally arrived on the big screen. With an 89% audience approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes and multiple box office records in its debut, it’s fair to think that a new horror franchise has been born. Therefore, it becomes more important to know where the story is going, after those clues in the final act. What does director Emma Tammi have to say about the end of Five Nights at Freddy’s?
WARNING: SPOILERS of Five Nights at Freddy’s next.
The film follows young Mike (Josh Hutcherson) who, in the midst of a custody battle over his sister Abby (Piper Rubio), reluctantly accepts a job as a security guard at an abandoned pizzeria with a sinister past. An establishment that closed its doors in the 1980s after five children were murdered there. However, their bodies were never found.
In the final act, it is revealed that Steve Raglan, Mike’s professional advisor, played by Matthew Lillard, is actually William Afton. He is the original owner of Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza, a serial killer of children who now protects and keeps under his control the animatronics, which hide the remains of his victims and are possessed by their souls. Likewise, it is confirmed that it was Afton who kidnapped and killed Garrett, Mike’s little brother, many years ago.
After Abby explains to the animatronics that it was Afton who murdered them, they rebel against him and beat him up in his animatronic suit, the Spring Bonnie. In the final scene, we see Spring Bonnie battered and being locked in a warehouse. After the final credits we can hear a distorted voice saying: ”Come find me” / ”Come find me”. Did someone say sequel?

Of course, many unknowns remained in the air. While there seems to be a general idea of where they want to go with the saga, director Emma Tammi doesn’t commit to specific answers.
First, Is William Afton still alive, or did he die and his spirit has moved into the animatronic’s body? This was his response to The Wrap: “I mean, if we’re lucky, and knock on wood, audiences like this first one, we can continue that story in the next movie.”. The good news? In an interview with WeeklyMTGLillard let slip that he has a three-picture contract.
Now, Garrett’s ghost/body isn’t in any of the animatronics? Despite being one of Afton’s victims, none of the animatronics show a special reaction towards Mike. One could sense then that it is not at least one of those we have seen so far: Freddy Fazbear, Foxy, Bonnie, Chica and Golden Freddy. “I feel like that could be a good thing for fans to think about as well. I would love not to put an end to anyone’s theories.”responded to The Hollywood Reporter.
In that same conversation, he was asked if Did Aunt Jane (Mary Stuart Masterson) really die when Golden Freddy went for Abby? Let’s remember that in the penultimate scene, we see Mike and Abby chatting quietly at home. However, no mention is made of his relative. “We have some loose ends that I think we will have to tie up in a sequel”said the filmmaker.
Despite the idea of letting the public theorize about these events, the director promises that they will continue to stay close to the lore of the original video games.
“We’re definitely excited to continue making more movies in this world, if we’re lucky enough to do so,” Tammi told Variety about plans for potential sequels.”[La primera] it’s tied to the first game, and we’d probably focus on tying the second to the second game, and so on. But anything could happen. We will have to see”.
Five Nights at Freddy’s It is already in theaters in the Mexican Republic.
