In an era of almost 5 billion Internet users, in recent years TikTok has positioned itself as the most popular platform for new generations.
Just like TikTok and Snapchat, YouTube has become the preferred platform for teenagers, but what does this mean?
We live in an era in which social networks have become an extension of the body, so to speak; an era that, for years, had been dominated by Facebook -it still is-, but that now has other protagonists and, above all, audiences.
According to information from DataReportal, currently the ranking of social networks is led by Mark Zuckerberg’s platform, which has almost 3 billion registered users and it is, in short, a space that has provided great visibility for brands, the media and other industries.
In recent years, since the arrival of the pandemic, it is known that there has been an increase in the use of Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, TikTok and, in general, of all the social networks available on the market; however, this was not the only thing that changed, since the number of Internet users had a significant increase of 4 percent, compared to the previous year.
This means that, today, the digital community has almost five billion users globally, who, in turn, are attached to at least one social network.
YouTube is positioned in the taste of adolescents
Within the social media shuffle, the last couple of years has had an impact on the popularity of TikTok, the Chinese social network with a youth population of more than 40 percent. In other words, Teens use TikTok the most today, but it’s not their only favorite social network.
A recent Pew Research Center survey of more than 1,000 adolescents between the ages of 13 and 17 in the United States announced that, along with TikTok and Snapchat, YouTube is one of the favorite networks of what we know as “Generation Z”.
More specifically, it is said that, of 100 percent of those surveyed, 70 percent have chosen YouTube, TikTok and Snapchat over Facebooksince only 32 have the application of said social network on their mobile device.
One thing that stands out from this survey is that, despite the fact that Facebook lost ground in this group of young respondents, Instagram, also owned by Meta, had a great result, with 62 percent of young people stating that it is one of the social networks that they use the most.
Ultimately, what has become clear is that the most visual social networks are gaining ground both in Generation Z (those born after the 2000’s) and the so-called Generation T (those born from 2010 onwards).
Instagram and TikTok, the ones that generate the most income for influencers
Nowadays, brands are more involved with social networks, since these represent an important tool to reach new audiencesto millions of consumers with a single postbe it a video or a simple image.
According to the report the report The State of Influencer Marketing 2021, Instagram and TikTok were the social networks where influencers generated higher income.
What will be the future of Facebook? Experts on social media issues predict that, little by little, the Meta platform will fade over the years, especially given the rise that has been seen of TikTok, Snapchat and, now, YouTube, where the content creators and where, precisely, the brands are betting more and more.
