TikTok is testing a new feature that allows you to create songs with the help of artificial intelligence. AI Song It allows you to put together tracks within its application, just by writing what you want. It is still in testing phase, with very limited access, but some users have already shared the first results.
The new feature has been available for some accounts since last week, in the ‘Add sound’ option that appears when you go to create a post. By choosing this option, the application will ask you to “enter a message to generate the song.”
TikTok offers some suggestions: “go to concerts,” “hug pets,” or “a new beginning.” But you can enter any message you want. After a few seconds, the platform will create lyrics related to your message and then combine it with music from a previously uploaded catalog. In the end, you can choose the genre from three options: pop, EDM or hiphop.
AI Song uses Bloom, a large language model. «Technically, it is not an AI song generator; “The name is likely to change and is currently in testing,” TikTok spokesperson Barney Hooper told The Verge. The end result, for now, is a bit strange.
TikTok still has to fine-tune its artificial intelligence
The first tests show that there is still a lot to improve. The first songs shared have out-of-tune voices or mispronounced words. Some tiktokers They have also shared that TikTok has generated the same lyrics for different users.
The platform, owned by ByteDance, acknowledges that the feature may contain errors. In addition, it has asked users not to include personal information in the instructions for creating a song. It also established several limitations. You cannot, for example, create material with information from other users, content related to the exploitation of minors or discriminatory acts towards other people.
The songs generated by artificial intelligence had already generated controversy on the platform. The song that copied the voices of Drake and The Weeknd, “Heart on My Sleeve”, managed to go viral thanks to the momentum it had on TikTok. Bad Bunny also complained after another song circulated that imitated his voice.
TikTok has since implemented other features that help identify content produced by artificial intelligence. It recently updated its policies to require users to tag content generated with this technology.
TikTok is not the only one to try its hand at song production. YouTube is already testing another music creation feature, allowing users to assemble pieces from text prompts or a hummed melody.
