At the beginning of DevDay, the first conference for developers organized by OpenAI, we learned very interesting news. On the one hand, GPT-4 Turbo was presented, and on the other, they appeared on the scene the GPTs. In the second case, we speak of Custom versions of ChatGPT that users can create without needing to know how to program. But that’s not all, since chatbots can be monetized through an online store that will be launched soon.
Yes, OpenAI will allow you create your own ChatGPT variants and share them with whoever you want. This new tool It is available from today for ChatGPT Plus subscribers and enterprise customers of the San Francisco, California-based startup. However, the most important expectations are about the future GPT Store.
As with mobile applications – either through the iOS App Store or the Android Play Store – custom versions of ChatGPT will be available through an online store that will be launched before the end of November. There, you can browse all the chatbots created by users.
According to OpenAI, the GPT Store will initially feature submissions from “verified creators,” but later more users will be allowed to publish their ChatGPT-based variants. The platform will divide them into categories and implement rankings according to use. Besides, In the coming months, creators will begin to be paid based on how many people use their chatbots. In any case, not many more details have been provided about it.
Creating your custom version of ChatGPT
The new OpenAI GPTs will allow ChatGPT to be given a specific purpose and personality. Sam Altman’s team aspires for these chatbots to adapt to particular use cases, being able to provide them with specific skills, such as searching the web or creating images using DALL-E. But that’s not all, since they can also be connected to external services such as Zapier or Canva.
This means that, for example, you can create a ChatGPT paired with your calendar. Thus, you can ask the chatbot to inform you what activities you have on your agenda during the week and who you will share them with, among other possibilities.
But the best of all is that GPTs will not require prior programming knowledge. To create these custom versions of ChatGPT you just have to start a conversation with the OpenAI chatbot and tell it what you want to achieve through the configuration. Plus, you can test them before publishing them. Please note that since the GPT Store is not yet available, to share them you will have to use a direct link.
According to Californians, GPTs can be personal or shared. Likewise, business clients will have the possibility of developing them for internal use only. “Clients like Amgen, Bain, and Square are already leveraging internal GPTs to do things like create marketing materials that represent their brand, help support staff answer customer questions, or help new software engineers with onboarding. “says OpenAI.
Privacy, a crucial point
The big question raised by custom versions of ChatGPT is how privacy is addressed. OpenAI claims that it has not left it to chance. It is because of that GPT creators will not have access to the conversations of other people who use them.
In other words, if you are the one using the chatbot created by a third party, your chats will not be visible to its developer. Likewise, if GPTs are connected to third-party APIs, you can choose not to have your data sent to them.
But be careful, that does not mean that OpenAI does not review the content of those dialogues. In fact, Californians indicated that they have implemented additional measures to prevent these personalized ChatGPTs from violating their usage policies.
“These systems are in addition to our existing mitigations and aim to prevent users from sharing harmful GPTs. Including those that involve fraudulent activities, hateful content, or adult themes,” they explained from OpenAI.
It will be interesting to see how the market for custom versions of ChatGPT evolves. If those from San Francisco play their chips well, it is likely that they have opened the door to a business incredibly lucrative.
