Apple has put on sale separately the new keyboards (and the Magic Mouse and Trackpad) that until now they were only available if you bought one of the new iMac models. These are the keyboards with Touch ID, which, in addition, bring a refined design with somewhat more rounded corners.
Of course: unlike what happened when Apple launched the iMac Pro, this time we will not be able to buy separately, at least for now, the new keyboards with Touch ID in the different colors that are offered with the iMac.
The prices, as usual, barely vary from previous models, which by the way are no longer available on the Apple website. The company offers the new keyboards in three versions: two with Touch ID, both in integrated numeric format, and in reduced format, and a cheaper version of the latter without Touch ID.
Keyboards with Apple Touch ID: pricing and availability
- Keyboard with Touch ID and numeric keypad for Mac: 185 euros.
- Keyboard with Touch ID for Mac with Apple chip: 159 euros.
- Magic Keyboard: 99 euros.
- Magic Trackpad: 135 euros.
Keep in mind that keyboards with Touch ID are only compatible with Apple-chip Macs, that is, the current line of M1 Macs and those that arrive in the future. On the other hand, the rest of the devices, like the new Magic Trackpad or keyboard without Touch ID They are compatible with all Apple equipment models, as well as working seamlessly with iOS / iPad OS.
In the case of the full numeric keyboard, the price has increased compared to the Space Gray model of the previous iMac Pro, one of the most expensive that Apple had for sale. Either way, it is great news for the user who was waiting to have a keyboard with the fingerprint reader.
