Windows 11 It promises to bring a few new features in its big update in 2024. Among them, the possibility of reinstalling the operating system much faster and without losing the files saved on the computer’s hard drive or SSD.
Microsoft plans to introduce a new option for carry out the Windows 11 reinstallation process taking advantage of Windows Update. With just one click, the technology that powers the software update manager will be able to get the process underway.
This not only promises to simplify the procedure, but also reduce the time required for it to be carried out. The feature is already being tested in the latest Windows 11 Canary Channel update, available to users participating in the Windows Insider program.
Once this tool reaches the stable version of Windows 11, users will have an easy method to repair their PC in the event of a critical software failure, without putting their files at risk. They will only have to enter Settings -> System -> Recovery. There you will find the new option called “Repair problems using Windows Update”.
What this utility will do is reinstall the version of Windows 11 that the computer is running, preserving both the files and documents on the storage drive, as well as the installed applications and saved settings.
Windows 11 will make it easier to reinstall without losing files
It is worth mentioning that this is not the first time that Windows 11 allows it to be reinstalled without deleting files, installed programs or the customization chosen for the software. There is a method called in-place upgrade which requires download the ISO image of the operating system and run it locally.
In this way, a computer diagnosis is carried out and Windows 11 is reinstalled while trying to solve the problems detected. This function allows you to choose not to delete personal files, or to perform a complete format of the partition where the software is installed.
Although it is a useful method to solve problems generated by corrupt system files or incompatibilities with drivers, among others, it has a major disadvantage: takes too much time. Not only because you have to download the latest version of Windows 11, but because the reinstallation process is extremely tedious. In fact, it forces the PC restarts multiple times before operating again.
This is why the new option to reinstall Windows 11 directly with Windows Update promises to be a crucial change. It will make the entire process faster and safer, and will expose the computer to less process load.
If testing of the Windows Insider program progresses without problems, this feature to repair Windows 11 is expected to arrive early next year. The utility would be included in the package Moment 5, that Microsoft would launch in February. That’s supposed to be the only major update coming to the operating system next year. Although it will continue to receive bug fixes and security improvements, only in 2025 would it have a version with major new features.
