The hundreds of people inside the store walk through most of the aisles, although in the background, the bakery looks emptier. The most crowded are the aisles that have Christmas decorations, furniture and electronic and technology items in their windows.
“I came for a printer. I’ve been monitoring the price all year and it does have a discount, but I’m not going to buy anything else, because the prices are the same as they were three or four months ago. What’s more, in May I bought another screen cheaper than right now,” says Vanessa Rodríguez, another buyer who walks through the aisles of the price club.
This year, Sam’s Club strengthened its fresh food offerings, at a time when some, such as milk and rice, have become more expensive. In the aisles there are also offers on box bread, mayonnaise, canned vegetables, meats, fruits and other fresh foods.
“We are very aware that the partners are experiencing a situation of tight pockets. We are surprised because our members see so much value in this category (of fresh food) that the traffic that we are seeing is very important”, declares Ivonne Montiel, vice president of operations of Sam’s Club.
The company will offer months without interest, free shipping, bonuses through the Cashi application and months of free connectivity for Bait customers, on the purchase of any unlocked cell phone.
As the day progresses, the catwalk of screens and even carts full of products for the pantry does not end. At the registers, the lines are short and move at a constant pace, thanks to the self-checkout registers, where buyers also finalize their purchases.
Meanwhile, the employees wait until 3 in the morning, or until the last buyer leaves the store, to lower the curtain and make their cashier’s cut for this first day of The Irresistible End, which this year was brought forward one week to El Buen Fin, the promotional campaign in which stores affiliated with the National Association of Self-Service and Department Stores participate.
