There is still a while for the Steam deck gets into the hands of users, but Valve has gotten ahead of the fans. The company shared a very interesting video that allows see in great detail what your portable console looks like inside.
The clip lasts just under five and a half minutes, more than enough time to do a review of the hardware that comes with the device. Also, the creators of the Steam Deck show how to change some of the components; despite this, they strongly recommend against doing so.
In the first part of the video the narrator mentions the various ways in which the console can be ruined. From the loss of structural rigidity that occurs when disassembling and reassembling, to permanent damage from a static discharge, to the possibility of fire if the battery is damaged; basically Valve opened the umbrella before it rains.
But if you wonder why they launch their own teardown from the Steam Deck if they recommend not to follow in their footsteps, the answer is very simple: they know that users most likely don’t listen to the advice and disarm her anyway. So it is best to have an official “guide” and not follow the recommendations of a third party.
The interior of the Steam Deck in all its glory
“The Steam Deck is a system with a very tight design, and the parts are carefully chosen for this product with its specific construction; so, in reality, they are not designed for the user to interchange,” they say from Valve in the video.
The guide shows how to change one of the levers from the console, and how to replace the included solid state drive. In the latter case, it is interesting because it is mentioned that changing the SSD can cause overheating and higher power consumption, as well as electromagnetic interference due to its proximity to the WiFi module, among other inconveniences.
Despite Valve’s reluctance to have players disassemble and swap out Steam Deck components, not bad to have official instructions. For now, this look inside the console is a good reward for those who eagerly await its arrival.
Meanwhile, from CD Projekt RED they have also shared a series of videos on Twitter showing the playability of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt on the Steam Deck. The images do not show too much, but how little you can see seems to work smoothly.
