Have you asked yourself how many tweets do you post each month? Very soon you will be able to know this figure and that of other users of the platform thanks to a new function. Among all the experiments carried out by Twitter is a tweet counter displayed on the user profile. this feature was discovered a month ago by Nima Owji, a developer who reverse-engineers to find new features in apps and services.
The tweet counter appears on the user’s profile and is displayed next to the total number of tweets posted by the account. The option is already available for some usersas reported TechCrunch. Unlike other previously discovered features, the tweet counter has not been confirmed by Twitter. This functionality could be implemented in the future, although some question whether it is useful.
Displaying the number of tweets an account publishes per month would serve for those looking to follow active profiles. It is also likely that a high number is a determining factor in not following a person, after all, few or no one likes to be saturated feed.
How many tweets per month is adequate?
This would also raise a second question: how many tweets per month is considered adequate? In an era where TikTok is setting the tone for social media with its short videos, many have abandoned the old practice of tweet and are dedicated to consuming content.
A study published by the firm Sysomos estimates that 80% of Twitter users have less than 500 tweets on their profile. Gone are the days when experts recommended posting three or four times a day to keep the audience engaged. Another study published by Pew Research Center found that most tweets come from 10% of platform accounts.
The user in this average publishes 138 tweets per month and marks 70 publications as favorites. These users are mostly women and often tweet about politics. By contrast, 90% of Twitter users post an average of 2 tweets per month and mark just one tweet as a favorite. It is worth mentioning that these figures apply to the United States, although the behavior could be repeated in other regions.
More Twitter features in 2022 than in the last decade
The monthly tweet counter is part of a host of features testing the platform in 2022. After a decade of staying afloat with the minimum, Twitter decided that it was a good time to apply all the pending ideas. This was driven, in part, by the involvement of Elon Musk.
The CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, who is about to face trial for refusing to buy the social network, proposed a while ago turn Twitter into a WeChat lookalike. Elon Musk wanted to make Twitter a place similar to popular Chinese apps in order to increase the number of users.
A few weeks ago CoTweets was announced, a function to share the authorship of a tweet with another person. A function to escape unwanted conversations and the possibility of writing notes as in a blog have also been implemented.
