However, one of the keys to tapping into LinkedIn’s potential is having an up-to-date profile, says Miranda Guzmán, senior consultant at recruiter Michael Page. This allows you to capture the attention of companies that search for talent online.
“By having an updated profile, recruiters and other professionals will be able to learn about the most recent professional experiences and learning of users, generating more opportunities both for work and to connect with people who can contribute to their development,” says Ramiro Luz, leader of Talent and LinkedIn Solutions for Latin America.
What should your Linkedin profile have?
Choose the right photo. Image is important because recruiters often remember faces but not names. That is why it is recommended that the photo be current, professional and not informal. It doesn’t necessarily have to be serious, but it does have to communicate that you are an open and trustworthy person.
Share content of interest to your network. Detailed information about your educational background, work experience, interests and aptitudes. But a creative way to supplement and validate the information is through recommendations from former co-workers or college mates. Also publish articles or videos on different topics that will help spread your professional brand, gain more visibility on the platform and be attractive to recruiters.
Create a focused network. Add related contacts to your profile, follow companies and opinion leaders and participate in discussion groups of your interest. All this, in order to exchange opinions and information, make networking and learn a little about the professions and industries in which to find new job opportunities.
Acquire new skills. LinkedIn Learning offers 1,500 courses in Spanish so users can continue their professional development. Some of the topics addressed by these courses are Professional Skills, Business Software, Marketing, Programming, 3D and CAD Animation, Information Technology, Digital Image and Photography, Audio and Video, Web Design, Graphic Design and Illustration, among others.
ask for recommendations. Ask your strategic contacts to take the time to make a recommendation on your profile, well focused will increase your image projection.
Be constant. Use the platform constantly to generate your own network of contacts, based on your skills and professional interests. It is very effective to follow the companies in which you would like to work, know what they do, like, comment or share the posts that you find attractive.
Do not share incongruous content. What is not recommended is sharing content that is not consistent with what the profile says, since the material that is shared there is a source of information that expresses a lot about who the user is and what their interests are in the professional field.
