Some time ago it was revealed that a new model of the PS5 came to market. Although at first it was striking that the weight of the console is now similar to that of the digital version at its launch, someone already opened up this piece of hardware, and discovered a number of improvements that Sony hadn’t mentioned.
Recently, the youtuber known as Austin Evans opened a PS5 of the CFI-1200 model, which hit the market a couple of weeks ago. Here a reorganization of the internal components was discovered, as well as new elements that substantially reduce the weight of the console and, in Evans’ opinion, make this a better piece of hardware.
To begin with, there is talk of a completely new motherboard, which is smaller. Alongside this, the heat sink on this model is even smaller than the one on the CFI-1100, but it contains a heat pipe that extends to the other side of the system. Similarly, it is noted that the SSD case now has a “better” shield.
Evans also claims that the new model is more energy efficient. When testing, the PS5 launch model was drawing around 218 watts of electricity, last year’s CFI-1100 model was pulling 229 watts, while the newer CFI-1200 only drew around 201 watts.
However, not all the changes have been positive, since the CMOS battery has now been positioned behind the heat sink, which makes replacing this element more complicated. Outside of this detail, it seems that the CFI-1200 model is the best option at the moment for all those who want to have a PS5. On related topics, a new and interesting update has arrived on this console today.
