The Mother’s Day is just around the corner and, as usual, we are going with our list of suggestions to inspire those of you who are short of ideas. This time from another prism. With proposals from practical utensils that a servant, like cooks and mother that she is, would like my children to give me.
Some of these gadgets They have been in my kitchen for a long time, but they are such essential basics in my day to day that they deserve a place in this selection. If I didn’t have them, they would be in me wish list for Mother’s Day. Without the slightest doubt.
essential basics
An knife set It is my first basic essential. Maybe it’s a childhood trauma (in my parents’ house, good, sharp knives were conspicuous by their absence), but functioning without them is very hard for me. It is worth getting a good set because it will last a lifetime and will end up being an investment, not an expense.

If we complete it with a steel, a sharpener or a stone to keep them in perfect magazine condition. Because cooking with a sharp knife is a real pleasure and, contrary to what many may think, much safer.

AnySharp Pro Knife Sharpener (Metal) with Suction Cup, Brushed Metal
MIYABI 34536-000 – Basic Sharpening Kit for Stones with Wooden Support 230x70x35 millimeters
Among my essential basics is also a casserole that can pass from stove to oven. A sea of versatile utensil in which you can cook practically anything. From rice to legumes, through vegetables, fish, meat, even cakes and other desserts.
Le Creuset Signature Collection Cast Iron Round Saucepan, Red (Cherry), 28 cm
The offer is wide, as well as its qualities and prices. Among my favorites is any piece by Le Creusset, but if the budget is limited there are other options. From the BRA brand is this 28-centimeter high casserole (there are other sizes) very functional, elegant and more affordable, with silicone handles, transparent lid and suitable for the oven.
BRA Efficient – High saucepan with glass lid and removable silicone handles, 28 cm, suitable for all types of hobs including induction and oven
It is useful to have mixing bowls of various sizes. Stainless steel is very practical and light, and those that have silicone on the base and grip well on the work surface are a joy. But the ceramic ones have stolen my heart and, if I had space in my kitchen, I would not hesitate for a second to have a whole set.

Mason Cash Innovative Kitchen Measuring Set, Ceramic, 12 x 12 x 9 cm, White
Some time ago I wrote about the most common mistakes that I no longer make when making cakes, something that I can extrapolate to the world of cooking. One of them was, for many years, calculating the ingredients by eye. But when the kitchen scale came into my life I never looked back. Especially the precision one, for small weighings.
Tefal Kitchen Scale – glass surface, automatic tare function, up to 5 kg, liquid measurement function, hanging ring, triple A battery
Lacor 62519 Kitchen Electronic Weighing Meter, Spoon, Food Scale with Digital Display, 300 gr, Black, Plastic, 22 x 2.5 cm
Far from what it may seem. This last gadget is to me essential in pastry and bakery. Large scales are incapable of weighing (for example) the three grams of dry baker’s yeast that a loaf of bread may require, and going overboard with this ingredient can lead to the ruin of our desired loaf.
Equally Useful Whims
Now that I have taken to making bread like a madwoman – is there anyone else in the room? – perhaps it is time to let my children see how good it would be to make room in the kitchen for a bakery set with his bannetones, his knife, his scraper and others. Perfect loaves coming out of my oven, a dream.

Since I’m dreaming, I’m going to continue with the list of utensils that I would love to have at home and would like to be given as gifts for Mother’s Day. I wouldn’t make anyone ugly bundt cake mold from Nordicaware, but I find the classic Anniversary model elegant and extremely attractive. From my favorites.
Nordic Ware 50077 Anniversary Bundt Pan, Cast Aluminum
And to cool the bundt properly? Something that I do not have and that is inexcusable for me, since it is one of the most basic basics, a metal cooling rack! Preferably multi-tiered, in case I start to make large batches of cookies and cakes. Essential so that these cool as ordered and the bases do not remain wet.

One of my confessable fantasies is to have a huge space in which to have all these utensils and more. A mega kitchen with a center island and a KitchenAid food processor or mixer make my life easier. In which to be able to knead, mix, assemble and much more. And, already put, with its accessories to mince meat, to make pasta, to slice, etc.

I already know that kitchen utensil, what is said kitchen utensil, is not. But it is that I I can’t cook without an apron. It’s the first thing I plant when I walk through the door of the house, so I had to enter this selection yes or yes. I have always found very comfortable those that have the form of a dress. They are baggy, with large pockets and very nice.

I think they go to the hair with my unattainable dream kitchen. Although, honestly, I am satisfied with a nice apron or simply enjoying my children and the rest of the family in the Mother’s Day.
