The iPad Air, one of the most important tablets in the Apple catalog due to its balance between excellent features and an attractive price, received a very important update in 2020. The Cupertino company completely redesigned the device, giving it a much more modern appearance, a greater screen, more power, and some of the biggest features of iPad Pro. Including support for second-generation Apple Pencil and Magic Keyboard. Now, after almost two years without announcing any new model in this range, the company has officially revealed the iPad Air 5a new version that not only inherits the best of its predecessor, but also the most remarkable of its most professional tablet, the iPad Pro.
At first glance, the new iPad Air 5 is identical to the model that the company announced in 2020. It maintains that design that is already so characteristic of Apple devices, with completely flat edges, Touch ID on one side, a front that barely has frames and a back with an aluminum finish that now boasts new colors. The 2022 iPad Air, specifically, now five is available new shades: space gray, star white, pink, purple and blue.
As for its screen, the iPad Air continues with a 10.9-inch IPS Liquid Retina panel with a resolution of 2,360 by 1,640 pixels, which offers a pixel density of 264 pixels per inch. It also maintains the different screen technologies, such as True Tone, which adapts the colors depending on the ambient light.
An interesting novelty of the new iPad Air of 2022 is the inclusion of a 12 megapixel ultra wide angle front camera. This, like the iPad Pro and the 2021 iPad, is capable of recognizing the subject and following it so that it is always in focus thanks to the Center Stage function. This mode also adapts the angle so that all members of a call are present.
The iPad Air 5 bets everything on performance with the M1 chip
Apple could have chosen to include an A15 Bionic chip, the same processor as that of the iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Pro. The company, however, has opted for a more powerful SoC: the M1 chip. Available on select Macs and iPad Pro, this processor features an octa-core CPU and GPU, as well as up to a 16-core Neura Engine. This configuration gives the iPad 60% more performance compared to the 2020 model, as well as 2 times more rapid power compared to its predecessor. It is more than enough power to perform any type of task, even high resolution video editing.
All this, in addition, with compatibility with 5G networks, which can reach speeds of up to 3.5 Gbps, according to the company. The iPad Air 5 also includes Wi-Fi 6 and eSIM support. On the other hand, it has a USB C port capable of data transfers of up to 10 Gbps: 2 times more than the previous generation. Of course, there is no lack of support for the second-generation Apple Pencil, as well as the Magic Keyboard.
