ChatGPT has a new competitor developed by a startup that has the support and investment of companies like Microsoft or Nvidia. Is called Inflection Pi, and it is a chatbot that stands out for its simplicity, but also for its capabilities. It even comes very close to the power of the OpenAI model and, in addition, is available today for free.
From Inflection AI, the company behind Pi, they ensure that their language model has been trained with 40% less computing power than OpenAI has used to enter ChatGPT and that, even so, equal the AI developed by Sam Altman's company in many aspects. But there is an important difference compared to the popular chatbot powered by GPT-3.5 and GPT-4.
Inflection Pi highlights for being a “kind and supportive” AI, although the chatbot itself claims that it is not capable of feeling emotions. What this artificial intelligence model does is help users who use it “to process thoughts and feelings,” as well as “to make difficult decisions through conversation.”
In fact, anyone can use AI solely for conversations, since Inflection Pi's responses are, in a way, friendly and somewhat more natural than those we get with ChatGPT.
Inflection Pi still has to improve in some aspects
From the company they affirm that Pi does not use any third-party language model API, but is based on an internally developed language model. Inflection, however, highlights that AI is in its early stages of development, and that in some cases it has difficulty responding. They even recommend not asking about legal or medical advice or making any queries of this type.
Pi is still in its early stages and there are areas where it struggles. You should not rely on any of Pi's responses, and especially not seek legal, financial, medical or other advice.
The model is also only updated until November 2022, although the startup has confirmed that they will soon update it to provide more current answers.
Inflection Pi is, we reiterate, a free AI. Any user can access it without the need for a waiting list. Is available in a web versionas well as on iOS or Android. The chatbot is also integrated into platforms such as WhatsApp, Instagram or Facebook, to be able to ask questions in a more intuitive way.
Of course, after several questions, Pi asks for the phone number so he can continue talking. Inflection clarifies that this is so that the user can have a chat history on any device. Also, so that Inflection Pi “can proactively follow up with you about something you've talked about in the past.”
Meanwhile, Inflection continues to receive funding from companies and entrepreneurs in the technology sector who find great potential in this AI company. The startup already has collected $1.3 billion in financing to continue developing a language model that stands up to ChatGPT.
