The State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) has revealed its forecast of temperatures for the following months. The information, however, is quite worrying. Spain, like other countries, is facing an extreme heat waveand the situation will not improve, quite the contrary.
According to the AEMET, which has relied on information from the Copernicus program, the period between August and September will have higher than expected temperatures. But not only in Spain, but throughout the world.
“In the Copernicus ECMWF temperature prediction for the August-September-October quarter, it is striking that in practically all of the landmass on the planet (and in a good part of the oceans) there is a high probability that it will be warmer than usual”, mention.
The AEMET says that in Europe there is a very high probability, between 50 and 70%, that during the following quarter there will be the warmest temperatures recorded in a long time. The agency takes as a reference the data obtained between 1993 and 2016.
On the other hand, the AEMET estimates that, in the south of the old continent, there will be rains “above normal”. Be careful, because this forecast covers almost the entire territory of Spain.
“If we zoom in on Europe, we see that the most likely scenario for the August-September-October quarter is that rainfall is above normal in the south of the continent, including most of Spain, with 40 at 50% probability.”
Continuing with Spain, the AEMET it states that the first four days of next week, that is, from July 17 to 21, will be of extremely high temperatures: between 40 and 42ºC, According to the report. Above all, in the Mediterranean basin, which includes the Iberian Peninsula and the Balearic Islands.
The following week, in addition, temperatures above normal will be recorded in the east and south of the Peninsula. Of course, in the north of the same region there will be an enviable cool climate.
Unfortunately, the AEMET estimates that the extreme heat wave, in the south of the Peninsula and islands, It will last until the first week of August.
The rest of the world should also take their precautions in the next three months. Globally there will be effects caused by the El Niño phenomenon. Southeast Asia, as well as northern South America, will experience drought. Quite the opposite will occur in southeastern South America and eastern Africa, where rain is predicted.
The temperatures predicted by the AEMET confirm a hellish year
2023 already has the records to be considered the hottest year in history. Without going any further, the week before the temperature record was broken three times.
According to data from the US National Centers for Environmental Prediction, the global average temperature reached 17.23 degrees Celsius (63.01 Fahrenheit).
There are a couple of factors that are causing this hellish heat wave. First, there is the damage that we ourselves have caused to the planet. Yes, we are empowering climate change. The other is the already mentioned phenomenon of The boywhose affectations reach the whole world.
Saleemul Huq, director of the Bangladesh International Center for Climate Change and Development, had already warned that an even more extreme heat wave was on the way. The temperature prediction of AEMET and Copernicus support it.
Somehow, society is coping with the heat wave as much as possible. However, it is inevitable to think about what will come later. If in 2023 we are having complications to deal with these temperatures, What will happen, for example, in 10 or 20 years?
