After several leaks after the announcement of Google and Samsung to jointly develop WearOS, the Koreans have presented what will be the first smartwatch with their new system. The Galaxy Watch 4 hits the market to elevate the Android smartwatch proposition and clearly tries to position itself as a major contender for the Apple Watch.
The Galaxy Watch 4 is not a profound change from what Samsung has been teaching, but yes a point already part that augurs a different future. As we say, the biggest change is your transition from Tizen to WearOS. All with the intention of enhancing the Android smartwach section and raising the competition in that segment.
And it does so hand in hand with Samsung’s new 5nm Exynos, the new processor that governs the Galaxy Watch 4. The rest of the specifications are also an evolution of the previous models, keeping the GPS and LTE options throughout the whole range. Its autonomy also grows up to 40 hours.
A complete bet on health and physical activity monitoring
However, the most important section is the software. Samsung hasn’t skimped on features measurement of health and physical activity with the Galaxy Watch 4. The smartwatch has active sleep monitoring, including measurement of snoring and blood oxygen level, as well as blood pressure.
In addition, it has a system for measuring body values through bioimpedance: just by placing your fingers on the side buttons of the watch you will measure the % body fat, BMI, fat, muscle, water, etc. . A metric that, due to the measurement system and its limitations (as with scales) are quite poor in terms of precision but a very interesting addition.
Thanks to the collaboration of Samsung and Google for the development of WearOS, the Galaxy Watch 4 is integrated with both Bixby and Google Assistant, in addition to including dedicated apps from Google Maps or Spotify and Samsung Pay. Another highlight is its integration with the phone and settings (such as do not disturb mode). Also, like the Apple Watch, the headphones automatically switch between tablet, mobile and watch depending on the device that is being used at all times.
Galaxy Watch 4 is available in two versions, Standard and Classic, both with an ingenious rotating bezel that allows you to switch between menus. In the case of the Classic model, this is physical and is also made of stainless steel.
Galaxy Watch 4, price and availability
The Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 will arrive on August 27 and will be available in several colors, and two case sizes (40 and 44mm the standard and 42 and 46 mm the Classic) in addition to the aforementioned finishes, standard and Classic, whose prices are from as follows:
- Galaxy Watch 4: from 269 euros, depending on the size of the case (40 and 44mm) and whether or not it has LTE. Available in silver, black, green and pink.
- Watch 4 Classic: from 369 euros, depending on the size of the case (42 and 46mm) and whether or not it has LTE. Available in black and silver
Of course, an issue to keep in mind is that both models will be the only ones with WearOS for now, since Samsung will not update any of the previous models to the new operating system.
