Even if they don’t sell as many units as they used to a decade ago, Sony is still present in the world of mobile telephony. The latest addition to its catalog is the Xperia 1Vwhich arrives to occupy the highest place in the range and, technically, rival the best proposals from Xiaomi, Samsung and Apple, among others.
His main weapon is, as on previous occasions, the 52-megapixel main camera, whose sensor has a size of 1/1.35 inches (70% larger than before). Each pixel has an individual size of 1.12 microns; but when combined by pixel-binning (4 in 1), the final size is 2.24 microns.
A peculiar feature of this sensor is that it has a ratio of 4.3:3, which is located at a midpoint between the usual 4:3 and 16:9. Therefore, when shooting in such formats, the Xperia 1 V always applies a slight crop.
The most striking thing about this camera, however, is that it is a Exmor Ta new type of sensor for smartphones with an innovative two-layer structure that, according to the brand, increases the amount of light captured and reduces overall noise. It remains to be seen what the actual behavior of this new component is, but it is certainly promising.
Along with this component is a 12 megapixel ultra wide angle with a 1/2.5-inch sensor and a telephoto lens that, as in previous generations, stands out for its ability to vary the focal length between 85 and 125mm. The size of said sensor is 1/3.5 inches and its lens has an aperture between f/2.3 and f/2.8.
These photographic elements are seasoned by various technologies, such as night mode, the S-Cinetone mode of the brand’s professional cameras, an AI-based focusing system. The brand also pre-installs the Photo Pro and Video Pro apps on the Xperia 1 V, which offer highly detailed control of the camera’s parameters.
The Xperia 1 V arrives with a refined design and the standard hardware of 2023
The internal components of the Xperia 1 V are what we expect from a phone in its range. The brand has implemented elements such as the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 –the chip that reigns in the high-end of Android– as well as a 5,000 mAh battery, a 30W fast charging system and compatibility with wireless charging.
As far as the screen is concerned, the Xperia 1 V repeats with one panel 21:9 –more panoramic– with OLED technology, 4K resolution and 120 Hz. It is a peculiar screen both for its high resolution and for its ratio. Also striking are the subtle frames that Sony retains both at the top and at the bottom.
Aesthetically, the phone too is continuous with respect to the previous generation, although it certainly has some attractive lines. In this generation, yes, the brand has implemented what they call “tactile design”, which consists of a special texture for the back and subtle indentations on the side.
The Xperia 1V It will go on sale at the end of June at a price of 1,399 euros. In Europe it will be sold only in black, although the brand has also presented a variant in white.
The product can be reserved from this Thursday. who do it, WF-1000XM4 headphones may be taken as a gift, one of the best headphones true wireless of the moment.
