The Australian company Power Ledger announced the launch of the “Energy Community” project in Spain through the use of Blockchain technology for the trade of renewable energy, as announced in a press release on March 23, 2022 by the Notimerica web portal.
The project will be carried out with the agreements of the Spanish company Fenie Energía and with the renewable energy company Albedo Solar and it is the first of several that will be implemented in cities throughout Spain using PowerLedger’s xGrid blockchain-based platform.
“Powerledger’s xGrid platform is a truly universal and sustainable energy solution. The fact that it can be implemented equally in a large city or in a rural municipality like Almócita, in Spain, is a testament to its applicability anywhere in the world” said Dr. Jemma Green, CEO and co-founder of Powerledger.
In this project households with their own solar powered rooftops could generate higher income with their surplus energy, although the rest of the population that does not produce solar energy will be able to buy renewable energy from their neighbors or the municipality at a lower cost than what the network has. All under the power of Blockchain technology.
It is planned that the excess solar energy produced will be stored in a 22 kWh battery. so that communities can be fed renewable energy during the darkest hours, in order to benefit from prices that vary during the day.
