At this point, we hope that you already know all the details of the OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro and if not, you are already taking time to enter the news that we have dedicated to these two phones with all the information on their design, features and price. As we always do in Pro Android, after an important event comparisons play, like the one we have already done on the OnePlus 8 vs OnePlus 7, but now, it’s time to compare it with one of its direct rivals, the iPhone 11.
This comparison will focus entirely on the characteristics of both terminals and objectively. We will not assess our preference for one operating system or another. In addition, we compare the most basic models as they are the most similar in the price of the line of all phones of both brands. That said, we move on to compare.
Radically different designs
Today, all the phones on the market are struggling to reduce the size of their screen frames, but in this sense, the OnePlus 8 takes much advantage of the iPhone 11. You only have to take a look to realize it, but the use of frames of the new OnePlus phone is far superior to that of Apple, so much so that the only difference in the physical size of these phones against the OnePlus 8 is its height, a centimeter higher than that of the iPhone 11, but it is narrower and also thinner.
In addition to taking advantage of the front, the OnePlus 8 has the front camera in a hole in the screen, which although it is not our preferred alternative and its placement, is much better than the large notch of the iPhone 11, however, justified be with FaceID. Also to mention the curvature of the screen of the OnePlus phone, something that is not to our liking for the experience of use that we have had with other phones of the style, but that in terms of design makes the difference.
On the back, both are built-in glass, but the iPhone 11 has a shiny finish in all its versions (except for the camera module) and the OnePlus 8 has a version in a matte finish (the green one). Also, the design couldn’t be more different. The iPhone 11 has a square camera module in the upper left corner, while the OnePlus 8 continues betting on a vertical centered camera module, two very different design lines and that we could say are tied.
Screen: no color, literally
Regarding the screen of these two terminals, once again the OnePlus 8 is ahead of the Apple iPhone 11. We are talking about the latest generation OLED technology for this phone, in front of an LCD screen, which, being one of the best on the market, cannot compete in terms of color intensity or contrast of images. Additionally, the OnePlus phone screen features a 90Hz refresh rate, which makes the user experience even smoother.
In favor of the iPhone 11, we have to say that it has a tactile sampling rate of 120 Hz, something that allows to decrease the tactile latency of the screen significantly. Of course, again in favor of the OnePlus, FullHD + resolution for a resolution slightly above HD, which, due to a high enough pixel density that it gives us, is still something much lower than expected in a phone whose price is close to the 1,000 euros.
Something we have not mentioned is the difference in screen size of these two models. The OnePlus 8 has a diagonal of 6.55 inches in 20: 9 format, while the iPhone 11, 6.1 inches in 19.5: 9 format.
Cameras: more is not always better (neither number nor megapixels)
In the aesthetic section, we have mentioned that the OnePlus 8 has three rear cameras, while the iPhone 11 has only two. Now, in a practical way, both phones have two useful sensors: the main camera and the wide-angle. In the case of OnePlus 8, the main camera is 48 megapixels, while the wide-angle is 16. On the iPhone 11, both cameras have the same 12-megapixel resolution.
In this case, we broke a spear in favor of the iPhone 11, since its results are well known to us and they are magnificent, one of the best on the market and in the end, the OnePlus 8 has returned to use the same IMX586 sensor that we find in phones a lot. cheaper and that gives good results, but far from what the iPhone cameras offer us.
On the front camera, we assume that things will be more even, but we must also mention the 3D sensors that the Apple phone has and that make possible its safe facial recognition, while in the case of the OnePlus 8, it is only used the camera.
Identical prices depending on versions
We did not want to get into the internal characteristics, because the performance will be very similar in both models although the numbers are far between them. The only point the OnePlus 8 will be able to get its chest out is in 5G connectivity and 30W fast charging, compared to Apple’s 18W (whose standard charger is 5W). Now, the prices are identical according to which versions of each terminal but basic, the OnePlus 8 goes on sale for 709 euros, while the iPhone 11 is 809 euros since it went on sale.
To match those 809 euros, we should buy the 12 GB RAM and 256 GB storage version of the OnePlus, which contrasts sharply with the 64 GB version of the same price of the iPhone 11.
