After two years, thanks to the health crisis, MODAPREMIO returns to the catwalks. The primary objective of this national event is to detect and promote talent in Mexico. The contest highlights that it is possible to undertake in fashion.
With the tireless Anna Fusoni at the helm, for more than three decades now the contest has encouraged new designers for their educational and professional growth. Since 1985, the platform has witnessed the journey and success of creatives, no matter what obstacles they face.
The mind behind MODAPREMIO: Anna Fusoni
In an exclusive interview for Entrepreneur.comAnna Fusoni, renowned fashion analyst and critic, one of the most respected voices within the Mexican Fashion System, spoke to us about the generational changes throughout her career of more than 50 years in the fashion industry.
“The only problem that I see in the immediate communication and the response capacity that people have greatly deteriorates the union and the creative capacity. People become like very smooth brain. Today there are many more people involved in fashion, but perhaps much less quality. Being a success is the great challenge”, shared the expert.
She also told us what she looks for in MODAPREMIO participants. “I’m looking to make a difference. May the compass change a bit, have the footprint and that they look for other options. That they do go ahead with the idea of excellence and success, but it is not always achieved”.
On the other hand, Fusoni stressed the importance of platforms like these since you have to understand “that one is the clothing and fashion industry, where you create a line, sell, go to a fair, etc. Then there is a part that not everyone understands, that being a fashion designer is not about making pretty clothes, but that you have to have a whole life plan behind you. For this reason, incubation processes are very important, those who do not (unless they are hyper-talented or hyper-rich) are not going to do very well”.
Anna Fusoni’s advice for those who seek to undertake in fashion:
- Approach one of the incubation systems.
- Participate in fairs such as Intermoda, since there you will be able to interact with buyers, learn and understand the market better.
- If you fail once, try again.
The winner of the prestigious PRIX DE PARIS contest of VOGUE magazine and a graduate in French letters, comments that her life changed with this first contact with fashion.
“When I returned to Mexico, I decided that if a contest changed my life, the right thing to do was to organize a contest to play and change lives.”
