Oppo has brought the Reno 6 range to Spain with the aim of battling against manufacturers that offer inexpensive alternatives with high performance. The Reno 6 Pro is the Chinese company’s biggest bet, while the Reno 6, the mobile that we have been able to thoroughly test for a week, is positioned as an economical alternative for those users who want a beautiful and elegant smartphone at a reduced price, without neglecting other specifications as well.
The appearance of the Oppo Reno 6 is very striking. It stands out, mainly, for the finish on the back. The brand has opted for a glass cover with a satin shade that prevents fingerprints from getting streakeds. The finish, which is accompanied by an all-glass photo module, can give an impression of fragility when first held in hand. The sensation, however, disappears after several minutes.
The Reno 6 has aluminum frames that adopt a flat design very similar to the one we see in the iPhone 13. The smooth edges highlight the silhouette of the terminal a lot and make it a more premium and elegant mobile, although it also gives the feeling that it is thicker. Again, that perception disappears when using the smartphone for a few minutes. Another highlight of the design is the front, which has hardly any frames and includes a perforated camera located in the upper area of the screen.
Oppo Reno 6 screen
And speaking of the screen; that of this Oppo Reno 6 is 6.43 inch and it has a Full HD + resolution. It has an AMOLED panel, as well as a 90 Hz refresh rate that allows you to navigate the interface with a slight fluidity. The screen update frequency is noticeable, above all, when scrolling on websites or when using social networks. The AMOLED screen also allows you to integrate a fingerprint reader on the screen, which offers very accurate recognition and unlocks the smartphone quickly.
Regarding the quality of the panel, the screen offers a very good rendering of colors and a excellent sharpness. The tactile response is very good, and at the level of visual comfort it is possible to choose different options in the system settings. Among them, the possibility of activating a mode that adapts the tones of the screen to protect the view or choosing between a more suitable tone to the taste of each user.
Oppo bets on MediaTek and a battery that lasts all day
The Oppo Reno 6 integrates a Dimensity 900 processor from the manufacturer MediaTek, which has support for 5G networks and is accompanied by 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal memory. It’s a more than decent setup for a device in this price range. In practice, moreover, performance offers very good results. The terminal provides a good experience when playing games, and the most common tasks, such as browsing the internet or social networks, are also performed very fluently.
The processor is accompanied by a 4,300 mAh battery, which offers good results with medium use. Usually, it is possible to reach the end of the day with a single charge, while the duration time grows considerably when activating the different saving modes that Oppo has available in ColorOS, its customization layer. The performance, of course, can be impaired in these cases.
This is how the Oppo Reno 6 cameras are
The Oppo Reno 6 has a triple camera configuration that stands out for its 64 megapixel main sensoras well as an 8 megapixel ultra wide angle camera and another 2 megapixel resolution macro camera. It is a very common configuration in smartphones with this price range.
In this case, the Reno 6 offers remarkable results in most situations, but without standing out above its competition. Photos in broad daylight are fine for brightness and detail, and it handles exposure very well. In some scenes, yes, it tends to saturate the colors. Above all, those more intense.
In night photography, the terminal focuses on capturing good detail in the brightest areas. The results, however, are quite poor, especially at the level of color, which is completely lost in those less illuminated areas. The camera app has a night mode that can help to achieve a little more brightness and color, although the differences are not huge compared to the automatic mode.
The ultra wide angle lens, which has a resolution of 8 megapixels, also delivers correct results. The HDR also helps to enhance the colors a bit more – which are not very intense in some circumstances – and to improve the exposure. On the other hand, Oppo has opted for a macro sensor that allows taking pictures at close range with results similar to the angular camera.
The Oppo Reno 6 also allows you to capture video in 4K with up to 30 fps or in 1080p at 60 fps. An interesting feature related to video recording is the possibility to apply a portrait mode, which blurs the background and focuses all the attention on the subject with a correct crop, as long as the movements are slow.
Is the new Oppo Reno 6 worth it?
The Oppo Reno 6 5G arrives to the market at a price of 499 euros for the version with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal storage. It is available in several colors: Lunar Gray and Artic Blue.
The new Oppo mobile is an ideal option for those users who are looking for a designer smartphone. Its premium finishes, colors and the back with that striking glass, make it one of the most beautiful mobiles in its segment. Its appearance, yes, is not the only quality of this terminal.
Oppo Reno 6 screen is another of the positive points of this smartphone, with a sharpness and contrast that leaves no one indifferent and colors that allow you to enjoy any content. The visual experience, unfortunately, is broken when watching videos, series or movies with the audio from the integrated speakers, which offer poor sound.
The Reno 6 also stands out for its versatility in the photographic section. Especially for the functions and modessuch as portrait effect video, macro photography or dual video, which allows you to record video with multiple cameras simultaneously. It lacks, yes, in some settings, such as night photography.
The problem with this Oppo is not with the phone itself, but with the competition. The Reno 6 faces tough rivals that offer very similar features at lower prices and, in some cases, superior features at similar prices.
The funny thing is that some of its competitors most direct are part of the same parent company. The OnePlus Nord 2 is one of them, which stands out for its performance, load and its photographic section at a price of 400 euros. The Realme GT is another of the more direct alternatives, a perfect option for those users who are looking for a mobile for games that, in addition, costs 50 euros less than the Oppo mobile. And we must also include in this equation the Xiaomi 11T, recently presented by the Chinese brand, with a fairly good autonomy, a more advanced processor and other series of advantages over the Oppo Reno 6.
