The iOS 16 Beta it is already in the hands of developers and, as is usual with each new version of Apple’s mobile operating system, some curious people inspect its code in search of clues that anticipate future hardware products. With iOS 16 it has not been the exception, and since 9to5Mac have found evidence of the long-awaited function of “display always on”which will presumably accompany the iPhone 14 Pro.
According to the aforementioned medium, multiple references to the “always-on screen” can be found in the iOS 16 code, a proposal that would allow information to be displayed on the locked screen without having to turn it on. Specifically, the operating system integrates three new frameworks whose purpose is to manage the lighting of the iPhone screen.
One of the tools discovered allows, in fact, to do this management on the lock screen, which is where we would see the function implemented. always-on display.
Since its launch, the iPhone forces us to turn on the panel when we want to check, for example, the date and time. However, with the “display always on” feature, this would be a thing of the past. Yes indeed, we will hardly see it in “old” terminals on the block.
An exclusive feature of the iPhone 14 Pro?
Rumors suggest that the “always-on display” would be an exclusive feature of the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max. The reason? Its OLED screen, coupled with the increase in the capacity of its battery, would allow it to offer this feature.
It’s not the first time we’ve heard about always-on display on iPhones. At the end of May, Bloomberg, in a report signed by Mark Gurman, mentioned that Apple was dedicating efforts to make the lock screen more useful. Among the features that would allow this purpose to be fulfilled was precisely the “always-on screen” function.
The rest of the information, which anticipated the possibility of enriching the functions of the lock screen, was already confirmed by Apple during the presentation of iOS 16 at WWDC 2022.
The new version of the operating system will allow us customize your lock screen in a meaningful way, and never before seen on the iPhone. From its visual section; being possible to put backgrounds that are divided by layers and changing the typography and color of the text; to functionality by adding widgets that provide useful information. Best of all, users will be able to create different lock screens to link to Focus Mode, opening up a wide range of possibilities.
