Laia Merino is a Spanish girl who works as a waitress in a bar-restaurant in Ireland, where he is spending a temporary stay to improve his English and live experiences. But the culture shock she has encountered at work has nothing to do with the local accent, the weather or the hours, but with the peculiar request of their bosseswhich he describes as “incredible”.
The young woman shares her experiences in the country through videos on TikTok with a point of humor, although in this confession it does not seem to make him no grace not at all the work experience that he recounts. Of course, it has viralized with tens of thousands of views and sharing in other media.
Laia begins by admitting that things are not going badly for her, that the job she has as a waitress is fine in that restaurant and that she is adapting to the environment and the language. “My job consists of serving tables, cleaning them, charging them, serving customers… I’ll even do the bathrooms for you if you want,” she says. However, her bosses, who from what she says must be a married couple who own the premises, have insisted that she has to do something else: make conversation to the clients. Or rather, to typical parishioners of bar.
The young woman herself describes to us the panorama that we have all seen hundreds of times in the cinema and on television; restaurant with a family atmosphere, open all day, with its bar where guests sit daily same usual neighborsretired, who spend hours every day with their beer installed on the same stool.
Apparently, Laia Merino’s bosses insist that when she doesn’t have to wait tables because there are fewer customers or no one orders food anymore, she tries to chat with them. Something to which the Spanish flatly refuses.
“Do you have to tell me who I have to talk to? That I have to be here talking to these gentlemen? I do not want toIt doesn’t come out of my head,” she says, outraged. The young woman also insists that these clients are very old gentlemen, “200 years old, toothless and I don’t understand what they’re telling me.”

Many comments that have reacted to the video criticize the waitress for having that attitude because it is part of the job be friendly and interact with clients, but the young woman clarified in another video that, of course, she knows that and does it. But it is one thing to attend with kindness, and quite another to give them conversation when she has nothing to say.
He debate it is served, because there will be those who appreciate having a waiter to talk and spend the afternoon, although others will prefer that he not go too far by taking excessive confidence. What is clear is that a waitress must be friendly, attentive and polite, but they don’t have to force you to act as an animator.
