“We have streamlined the process of our water consumption in recent years at the Toluca plant. Practically this new line has greater efficiencies”, commented Amariliz García, director of the Toluca plant at Heineken Mexico. “Water consumption at the plant is one of our main agendas. In the last four or five years we have reduced around 20% and we have to continue working,” she added.
Regarding the issue of water scarcity, the Heineken team pointed out that specifically in the Toluca plant there have been no such problems, however, that does not imply that it is neglected, on the contrary, work has been done so that the brewery ranks among those with the lowest water consumption.
“We are practically in the top 10 ranking worldwide, we have the best consumption in the entire network of Heineken Mexico with respect to the breweries on the planet. In the case of Toluca, we do not have a specific issue of water cuts, because Mexico City does not have that scheme, we are not going through the same situation (as Monterrey),” García added.
The director of the plant stressed that digitalization has been the axis to reduce the carbon footprint of Heineken Mexico, streamline production and improve the safety of employees in the seven plants that the brewery operates in the country.
Specifically, the Toluca plant is located in the top three for beer production for the company, only behind Orizaba, Veracruz, and Monterrey, Nuevo León. For this, an investment of 677 million pesos was needed in June 2021, with which an increase of 12% in the annual production volume is contemplated.
The plant has a production capacity of 7.5 million liters per year for brands such as Heineken, Bohemia, Amstel, Tecate, Indio and Dos Equis.
