The big question finally has an answer: Xiaomi did plan to remove the included chargers from mid-range mobiles. The company has started with its latest launch in the Chinese market. The new Xiaomi Civi is a great mid-range device that debuts on the market with a smaller box than normal and without charger. So far only high-end phones from Xiaomi and other companies had dared to withdraw this important accessory. Still, Xiaomi continues with its Xiaomi Mi 11 policy and does not leave its buyers in the lurch.
Xiaomi’s mid-range doesn’t include a charger either, but it’s not a problem
The new Xiaomi Civi is inside the catalog of Xiaomi mid-range and comes without charger in the box. The device does include a basic silicone sleeve, but not the most important accessory that used to be included in the boxes. Xiaomi has wanted to follow the strategy of the Xiaomi Mi 11, a device with a very thin and light case thanks to the removal of the magazine.
The good news for users is that Xiaomi has also decided to maintain the strategy of “giving away” a charger to users who need it. This charger is not basic, but is prepared to support the fast charge of the Xiaomi Civi, which reaches up to 55W.
It is good news, because users who require it, they can have it without paying more. Users who already have chargers at home can choose not to take it and benefit the environment.
A strategy that doesn’t quite work
With this strategy, Xiaomi is adapting to what many countries and regions are going to oblige shortly. The EU has already proposed to end the chargers included in the boxes of all mobiles. Xiaomi seems to be getting ahead of itself.
The curious thing about this strategy is that the company continues to offer chargers separately. This is incredibly good for the consumerWell, you will get a fast charger that other companies are not including. To have the same result in Samsung or Apple they will have to spend a few 30 or 40 euros / dollars more on a fast charger.
The point here is that with this strategy the environment is not taken care of. It is very likely that in countries like Spain 95% of users decide to purchase the optional charger offered by Xiaomi. This supposes a pack of two products, with their corresponding shipments from China, their corresponding certification, tests, plastics for packaging and various costs for the environment.
At ProAndroid we are not experts in contamination, but it is not very difficult to realize that a Two-box pack is likely to pollute more than including the charger in the smartphone box.
Knowing this, and that most users will choose to get the optional charger, the result is that most sales of this device will pollute more What if the usual option had been chosen: charger included in the box.
What do you think about this topic? Do you think that Xiaomi He’s doing fine?
