Google has arrived at CES 2024 with interesting new features in its software and device ecosystem. One of the most important is the alliance with Samsung to simplify the option of share files between Android phones. Both companies have decided to unify their tools to carry out this task under the name Quick Share.
Google and Samsung’s intention is to offer a simpler experience when sharing files between Android devices, regardless of the brand. Let’s keep in mind that the operating system developed by Mountain View includes since 2020 an option called Share with Nearby. While the South Koreans use a very similar proprietary solution called Quick Share.
What both companies have chosen to do, then, is combine both technologies. From now on, the file sharing function will adopt the name Quick Share, from Samsung, but will be available by default on all Android phones. Although it will not be limited to them.
The new Quick Share will also allow you to send documents, images, videos and any other type of material to other devices in the Google ecosystem; For example, Chromebooks. But the Californian company’s intention is to go one step further and bring it to Windows computers. That is why they are already working with manufacturers such as LG to incorporate this tool as a pre-installed app on their PCs.
As explained by Google, the new Quick Share developed together with Samsung will arrive next month to devices that already have the Nearby Sharing function, through an update. Once the renewed tool is available, sharing files between Android phones and other devices will be very easy.
When Quick Share is available, you just have to touch the tool icon and the list of nearby devices that are compatible with this function will be displayed. From there you must choose the device with which you want to share the files from Android, and that’s it.
It is worth noting that Google and Samsung are working to replace Share with Nearby keep privacy controls in the hands of users. This means that people will be able to choose what type of visibility they want their smartphones, tablets or computers to have. So, for example, they will be able to choose to keep them restricted to their own devices, limit them to their contacts, or allow them to be available to anyone. gadget nearby.
