If you are surprised by the 64 and 108 megapixel cameras today you will know the near future of mobile cameras. Samsung just introduced the most spectacular sensor and ambitious of the market with nothing more and nothing less than 200 megapixels resolution. This figure doubles the 108 MP that we are “used” to seeing in mid-range and high-end devices such as some Xiaomi. From now on, everything indicates that the standard will change to obtain cameras with even more megapixels.
200 MP Samsung camera with more pixels and a lot of technology
The leaks have been announcing for a while that Samsung was preparing a high-end sensor with some 200 MP resolution. This moment has come and the Samsung ISOCELL HP1 it’s official. This sensor has the main feature of offering 200 MP photos and a series of very interesting technologies.
Of course, the fact that it is the mobile camera with the most megapixels does not make it the best on the market, although it is very likely that it is among your favorite sensors late 2021 and early 2022.
The ISOCELL HP1 offers shots of 200 MP, 50 MP or 12.5 MP depending on the lighting conditions of the scene. The sensor itself chooses which is the best option and shoots with higher or lower resolution making the brightness of the photograph prevail.
In 200 MP mode it uses the pixels independently with a size of 0.64µm; in 50 MP mode groups pixels into sets of 2 × 2 with a size of 1 µm; and in 12.5 MP mode it groups pixels into sets of 4 × 4 with a size of 2.65 μm.
The sensor has a total size of 1 / 1.22 ″, record in 8K resolution at 30 fps and in 4K resolution at 120 fps. Details of the focus system or more technologies implemented are unknown, so we will have to wait to know what kind of news they announce when it is implemented in the first smartphone.
The Samsung ISOCELL HP1 200 MP It is in the last phase of production, so it could be available to companies very soon. We will have to wait to find out which device is the first to mount a 200 MP camera. Xiaomi may want to keep the scoop on the first 200 MP mobile of the market, although it is early to confirm.
