Caring for the environment is an urgent responsibility. Many of the environmental contingencies that we are experiencing are due to the fact that, at the time, responsible measures were not taken to have a different present today. Therefore, we must assume ourselves as one more actor in the environment in which we develop and not as the dominant factor.
The use of natural assets finds an ethical justification in respect for the environment.
Increasingly, a more aware society and more responsible consumers demand that businesses be carried out in full respect of the environment, which is why they demand that businesses take sides on this issue through concrete actions and verifiable results. Companies can no longer remain oblivious to this requirement and must assume the responsibility that corresponds to them.
Similarly, respect and inclusion are fundamental values that must be taken into account within companies and in their relationship with people. A truly human treatment towards the other person, seen not as a means, but as an end in itself, leads us to highlight and respect the human quality of the workers. In this sense, one of the central concerns of ESG is people.
ESG policies seek respect for the dignity of working people. Currently, it cannot be ignored that there is a direct correlation between the value of a company and the well-being of its workers. Non-discrimination measures promote equal opportunities at the beginning and prevent salary differences from being based on unjustifiable elements such as gender, race, age, religion, etc. In addition, inclusion and diversity policies strengthen companies.
Plurality is not a desirable value in workplaces, it is an urgent need. Respect for the other suits us all, at some point we are all the others.
The decision-making of the collective bodies is another important aspect to consider, since it is required that they have diversity in their composition. The uniformity of opinions prevents evaluating other alternatives that can provide a different vision, probably not contemplated in decision-making.
Diversity favors and enriches the exchange of ideas that the evaluation of options entails, instead of the unilateral imposition of a single opinion. In any election, it is always better to have options than not to have them. Inclusion and diversity cause the fertility of ideas.
