Flan is one of those classic and traditional desserts that continues to arouse passions, both in our homes and on restaurant menus. There are many versions that enrich the basic mixture of milk, eggs, sugar and caramel. One of them is the one we bring today: Chestnut Flan. The perfect finish for Christmas menus.
We’ve streamlined your process and dare we say this is the easiest and fastest way to prepare it. We save the cooking, peeling and crushing of the chestnuts by using canned chestnut cream. A product easy to find in supermarkets, in the jam section. The result is exceptional, worthy of the most demanding palate.
we also use candy bought in the supermarket, although making it homemade is sucking. However, when we are in a hurry, having these shortcuts makes life much easier. In five minutes we will have the flan mixture ready to distribute in its molds and put in the oven in a bain-marie. You can not ask for more!
In a wide and deep container, mix the chestnut cream with the milk. They will blend better if both ingredients are slightly warm. Add the eggs and stir to mix the three ingredients well. No need to add sugarsince the chestnut cream has it incorporated.
Place the flaneras in a baking dish and distribute the liquid caramel between them. Then we fill them with the previous mixture. Pour enough hot water to cover half of the flaneras and place the pan in the oven, preheated to 180 ºC with heat up and down. we cook at water bath for 40 minutes. Let cool before unmolding and serving.

With what to accompany the chestnut flan
East Chestnut Flan It is a wonderful seasonal sweet that you can have with a tea or coffee in the middle of the afternoon or serve as a dessert for the many Christmas lunches and dinners that are just around the corner. I like to crown it with a handful of crocanti almonds, but it can also be accompanied (and -by the way- decorated) with whipped cream.
