This October, Apple could refresh some of its Macs along with a new M3 chip that is somewhat more powerful than the current SoC; the M2, as revealed by Mark Gurman, of Bloomberg, in one of their weekly newsletters. But there are a number of specific models that unfortunately won’t arrive until next year.
Gurmann, specifically, has asserted in a new edition of its newsletter that 2024 will be the date on which Apple announces a Mac mini with M3 chip. It is not clear, of course, at what time of year we could see this model announced, since the journalist points out that the company has not even begun its development, although it is in its plans to launch a team of these characteristics. It is also likely that the Mac mini will also include a more powerful M3 Pro chip, thus following the strategy of the current model, which is available in two variants: one with an M2 chip, and another with an M2 Pro chip.
In parallel to the Mac mini, Gurman has also revealed that over the next year we could also see two new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros with M3 chips —possibly M3 Pro and M3 Max—. Again, he doesn’t pinpoint a specific date, but says we’ll “probably” see them in the middle of next year. Maybe during WWDC 2024: an event where the company tends to announce new equipment for professionals.
We will see new Macs with M3 at the end of 2023
Apple, yes, will continue with the launch of new Mac models this year. The journalist himself Bloomberg highlighted a few days ago that the company plans to launch new models with M3 after the summer. I was betting on a new 13-inch MacBook Pro that would arrive to renew the current model with M2.
Also, for a new 13-inch MacBook Air which would maintain the same aspect of the current version, but with a more powerful and efficient SoC. It’s a strange strategy considering that the company just released a 15-inch MacBook Air with an M2 chip. However, we must bear in mind that the 14-inch model has not been updated for more than a year.
Along with the MacBook, we could also see announced a new iMac with M3. It is not clear if this will arrive with a new design or screen size. Or whether, instead, it will keep the appearance and panel dimensions of the Mac all-in-one with an M1 chip.
Regarding the M3 chip, it is expected that it will be more powerful and efficient thanks to the new manufacturing process 3 nanometers. The new Macs, therefore, would gain in autonomy and performance, among other improvements that are still unknown.
