amd is about to launch a feature that will improve the quality of your videos. The manufacturer announced that its FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR) technology will support scaling in YouTube videos and VLC for Windows. This will allow you to increase the resolution of the content with minimal loss of quality.
The company took advantage of its presentation at CES 2024 to present all the new features that will arrive during the year. While the new Ryzen 8000G AI processors and the 16GB Radeon RTX 7600 XT stole the show, AMD spent a few minutes on the software. The manufacturer remains firm in its intention to develop an alternative to NVIDIA DLSS and revealed previews of FSR 3.0, including video upscaling on YouTube and VLC.
In accordance with TweakTown, the new FSR feature will be available to those with Radeon video cards and AMD Ryzen processors with integrated graphics. Unlike NVIDIA, AMD does not discriminate against those who have a competing card. Video scaling will also come to NVIDIA’s most popular cards, such as GeForce RTX 3060, RTX 2080, GTX 1060 and more.
Perhaps most important is video support offline, which would allow you to enjoy your old DivX movies at higher resolution. For it, VLC will release a scaling-friendly version of FSR in Q1 2024. The video application now supports NVIDIA’s RTX Video Super Resolution technology.
Which graphics cards will support AMD video scaling in VLC and YouTube?
Video scaling will be offered through a Radeon Adrenaline Software update. The operation on YouTube will be similar to what we see with RTX Video Super Resolution, where users can increase the resolution up to four times. The Final quality will be subject to the compression of the original video.
To access the latest version of FidelityFX Super Resolution, the user must have any of the following graphics card models.

What is FidelityFX Super Resolution
AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR) is a spatial scaling technique Designed to improve gaming performance and image quality. FSR works like an intelligent enhancement algorithm that uses various rendering techniques. Unlike traditional methods, FSR is not limited to simple interpolation, but employs advanced algorithms to extrapolate high-resolution details from lower-resolution input.
While FSR debuts support for video scaling, his focus is on video games. When a game uses FSR, the rendering engine initially generates graphics at a lower internal resolution than what is ultimately displayed on the screen. FSR then takes over during the expansion process.
Instead of stretching and smoothing the pixels, FSR analyzes the image and reconstructs the details, resulting in higher perceived resolution without the computational burden of rendering the entire scene at native high resolution. Although FSR does not reach the same level of quality as DLSSAMD’s technology is vendor agnostic, meaning it can be implemented in other graphics cards.
