Last year amd revealed FidelityFX Super Resolutiona technology that seeks to compete with what it does NVIDIA with DLSS. Now, the company has revealed that an improved version of the technology will be “fully supported in Xbox” and will be available in the Xbox GDK for future games from developers who sign up.
The idea behind this technology is to allow developers to offer incredible image quality and improve FPS, as you will see below with deathloop.
The first version of FidelityFX Super Resolution began to arrive Xbox in mid-2021, and there were already some developers taking advantage of it. With fidelityFX Super Resolution 2.0, its creators seek to take this technology further:
“AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution 2.0 technology has been developed from the ground up, and is the result of years of research by AMD. It has been designed to offer better image quality compared to FSR 1.0, our scaling solution released in June 2021.”
We will have to wait a little longer to find out how this technology is impacting game development for Xboxbut it certainly sounds like something promising.
Publisher’s note: It’s always good to see different companies creating technologies that, at the end of the day, will end up benefiting us all. Perhaps these implementations can be a bit subtle, but it is always preferable to have them.
