For many, home delivery of purchases became another way to shop at home after the pandemic. For others, however, it was already a habitual modus operandi for not having to take groceries home after filling the cart at the supermarket.
There are many supermarkets and hypermarkets in our country that offer home delivery, as is the case with Carrefour, Alcampo, Ahorramás, El Corte Inglés Supermarkets or, in the case that concerns us today, which is that of Mercadona.
However, a controversial decision by the chain chaired by Juan Roig has shaken social networks today: the increase in the price of home delivery. After 20 years without changing the price home delivery, the Valencian company has decided to slightly modify the amount of this service, as explained from xataka.
Starting next August 3, the new service will go from the 4.21 euros it costs today at 6.50 euros which will start to cost in a few days without taking into account the total purchase price. It is, specifically, a rise of 54.39%. This example serves to illustrate what happens with other chains, such as Carrefour or El Corte Inglés, which offer free home delivery whenever the purchase is over 100 euros.
Present both on its website and in the stores themselves, Mercadona has been one of the pioneers in home deliveryalthough it is true that it is not available in all cities and that the final shipping cost, which starts at 4.21 euros, always depends on the geographical area, applying a maximum distance of up to 10 kilometers to the customer’s home.
What is certain is that Mercadona ‘stimulates’ the customer in the store, since the price of home delivery when the purchase is made in person is cheaper than when online commerce is used. As it appears on the Mercadona website itself, the price of home delivery of the online purchase is 7.21 euros and also requires a minimum order of 50 euros.
applied since finals of July as a measure to alleviate the costs of fuel, transport and personnel, the measure that Mercadona has taken is immersed in a generalized rise in prices that now, for the first time in 20 years, means changing the price of home delivery.
