Are waiting 3 million tourists for Day of the Dead and F1
The city’s Tourism Secretary, Paola Félix Díaz, reported that 3 million national and foreign people are expected to visit for the Day of the Dead festivities and the Formula 1 weekend.
For the first time, he stressed, it will be possible to independently measure the economic spill that the activities will leave for the Day of the Dead, which in years ago was measured jointly with Formula 1 and included the sale of tickets to the Mexican Grand Prix.
The official explained that the Hotel Association of Mexico City reported an occupancy of 87% since this Thursday, and the Airbnb short-stay accommodation application an occupancy of 90%.
“Mexico City is back, the eyes of the world are on the city, the economic and tourist reactivation is underway,” said the official.
Asked if the congregation of people during all the festivities for the Day of the Dead could generate an outbreak of Covid-19 infections, Sheinbaum ruled out that this will happen, since they are outdoor activities and 95% of the population already has complete vaccination schedule.
