Ukraine’s search for peace is not lonely; it is a symphony of courage, resistance and a burning belief in independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity. Ukrainians, like all nations, carry these values deep inside, and there is no room for compromise. In Ukraine, we fight – we die – for these shared values. Deep down, we are all united by our innate desire to be free.
The international community understands that the largest conflict in Europe since World War II, currently taking place in Ukraine, is having a negative impact not only on Ukraine, but also on global security, prosperity and the environment. Countries around the world must accept Russia’s actions for what they are – illegal and destructive – and focus on building lasting peace. Some continue to try to claim that the invasion of Ukraine is a local conflict. But the truth is that Russia is at war with the whole world.
Russia’s threats to use nuclear weapons against a non-nuclear state, threats to the security of nuclear power plants, threats to energy security, extensive damage to the environment, abuse and torture of captured military and civilians, and forced deportations massive are evidence of the appalling war crimes that have been inflicted on us. Russia is creating a multifaceted humanitarian catastrophe, with Ukraine at its center. We are determined to defeat the aggressor and rid our country of the invaders. In the course of our counter-offensive, we have already liberated more than 270 km2 of our territory. But we also want to build a more secure future for both Ukraine and the world.
We have a plan to confront all the threats posed by Russian aggression, and we have friends who share our point of view. President Zelensky proposed his Peace Formula at the G7 summit last November, and since then other countries that unconditionally respect the independence, territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine have joined him in their desire to implement this initiative.
The Peace Formula, made up of 10 steps, refers to international security, protection and justice. It is based on the fundamental principles of international law and the Charter of the United Nations. Consequently, its application amounts to restoring respect for the Charter and the principles of international law. Ukraine works hand in hand with the international community in upholding these fundamental norms of global coexistence.
We are fighting, but we are aware that victory and peace will not be achieved alone on the battlefield. Collaboration and collective efforts are essential ingredients for this recipe to be successful. That is why we have developed a three-stage model to ensure that the Peace Formula is international. Whether it is nuclear security, food security or helping Ukraine recover the thousands of children Russia has kidnapped, each state can show leadership according to its capabilities and inclinations.
