YouTube and Picture-in-Picture mode of iOS have never gotten along very well. After adding and removing this feature for iPhone and iPad devices, it seems that the company wants to bury the hatchet. In a statement during the month of June 2021, they already confirmed that this function would reach all iOS and iPadOS users. More than a year later, it has finally been released.
That’s how it is. If you have an iPhone or iPad, and a YouTube Premium subscriptionyou can now enjoy the mode Picture-in-Picture of the platform. What exactly does it work for? Well, the explanation is quite simple. With PiP you can still see the content that is playing on your screen when you exit the app, no matter what other app you are in.
This feature came to iOS several versions ago. However, although YouTube had initially supported it, decided to withdraw it for unknown reasons. Today is the day this story ends, and with a happy ending.
If you are in the United States, you can use the mode Picture-in-Picture from YouTube completely free. We do not know why the company has decided to leave it within the Premium subscription for the rest of the world.
How to use YouTube PiP mode on iPhone and iPad
To begin with, the company has confirmed that this function will be compatible with iOS 15 and iPadOS 15, onwards. So, if you own a device with a lower version, you might be unable to use the mode of Picture-in-Picture.
Also, if you are not from the United States, you will need to have a YouTube Premium subscription. Along with all other functions, the service also offers access to this feature, although we hope that in the future it will be part of the free model.
Finally, if you meet all the requirements, activate mode PiP easy.
- Go to the app of Youtube.
- Tap on your profile picture in the top right corner.
- now go to Setting and later to General.
- Activate the mode Picture-in-Picture (or Image within another in Spanish).
Now, simply enter any video you want to watch, and exit the app swiping from the bottom of the screen—or by tapping the Home button, if applicable. Thus, you will see how the video is minimized in a box that you can move and resize.
