The rumors have come true. Microsoft has finally announced new storage expansion cards for its Xbox Series X | S Series. These are Seagate devices from 512 GB and 2 TB, which are in addition to the 1 TB option that has been available on the market from the end of 2020.
Microsoft states in a blog post that the Seagate Storage Expansion Card for Xbox Series X | S 512GB will cost $ 139.99. It will initially launch in the United States in mid-November and will then reach other markets.
The 2 TB expansion card, meanwhile, will be available to reserve from December in the United States and later in other markets. It will cost $ 399.99. This is surprisingly $ 100 less than the official price of an Xbox Series X. And, as if that weren’t enough, it’s the same price as an Xbox Series S.
Microsoft and Seagate have not yet revealed when these expansion cards for Xbox Series X | S will arrive in other countries. Nor have they provided details about their prices in euros, although they already appear among the options available in the Web of the storage company for Spain.
Xbox Series X | S can only use Seagate cards, for now …
With new generation games more and more present, having an expansion card in an Xbox Series X | S is an important alternative, if you do not want to download and install the titles again and again due to lack of storage. The truth is that, for now, the Seagate option is the only option.
Microsoft has an agreement with Seagate, which limits the use of other types of solutions. Its main competitor, Sony, promotes a different strategy and does allow expansion units from different manufacturers to be used, although its installation is not so simple.
The ones from Redmond defend this custom internal SSD by ensuring it has Xbox Velocity Architecture, a technology that provides high data transfer rates that improve the performance of the consoles. While ideal for Xbox Series X | S games, previous titles will also feature significant improvements in load times.
