The Dragonblight zone minimap could bring us back to the plot of Galakrond!
After more than seventeen years of its launch and a series of surprises around the main story, World of Warcraft has established itself as one of the most significant role-playing games among the gaming community. So much so that each update keeps the audience on edge; but this means, as in other video games, that there could be impatience to know what awaits them behind these updates of their favorite franchises. Meanwhile, before the developers make official announcements, there are leaks, and World of Warcraft is no exception to expansion leaks.
A week before Cataclysm was officially announced, the World of Warcraft community had already been introduced to goblins, worgen, and the ever-altering face of Azeroth.. In fact, Mists of Pandaria was leaked when Blizzard applied for a trademark, however at the time not many gamers were willing to believe that it was actually an expansion for World of Warcraft. For its part, screenshots of the Warlords of Draenor cinematic were leaked a few days ahead of schedule.
Considering the above, it’s not at all surprising that World of Warcraft fans have a pretty good idea of what the next expansion could entail, even though it hasn’t been officially announced by Blizzard Entertainment yet. According to the wide range of leaks and rumors that have emerged in recent months, Many players believe that the next World of Warcraft expansion will be set in the Dragon Isles, and a recent update to the Dragonblight minimap only reinforces this theory..
A change in World of Warcraft that could be more than necessary
Broadly speaking, while the Dragonblight minimap has been updated recently, there have been no noticeable changes to the location compared to a work-in-progress version that was uploaded to the game’s database in patch 8.2 during Battle for Azeroth. In this way, considering that the minimap of this version of Galakrond’s Rest has been modified, and comparing it with the previous leaks related to a possible dragon-themed expansion, there are many coincidences that should be considered to know what awaits us after this update.
In the first instance, the main differences that we find in this version of Dragonblight with respect to the previous one (shown on the right) is that all Titan architecture has been removed, including the iconic Temple of Wyrmrest that dominates the area. Additionally, Galakrond’s bones are missing, as well as obsidian, ruby, and bronze Dragonshrines.
The implications of these notable absences point to an exciting possibility: a new instance of the Caverns of Time showing Galakrond’s defeat by the early, primal versions of the original Dragon Aspects: Ysera, Nozdormu, Malygos, Alextrasza, and Neltharion. For an expansion that seemingly revolves around dragons and their future, relatively simply, going back in time to look at one of the biggest moments in their history would be a big step for World of Warcraft.
Given the poor reception of the Shadowlands finale, as well as player fatigue over World of Warcraft’s focus on its cosmic lore, reducing everything to a simple expansion built around thwarting a resurrected Galakrond could be the twist the World of Warcraft story really needs..
Galakrond, a key dragon in the history of World of Warcraft
In case you haven’t followed the history of World of Warcraft closely, Galakrond is a proto-dragon, considered to be “the father of dragons”. It is known that he was an extremely evil creature that tried to destroy all the proto-dragons by forcing all the flights (held by the red, blue, green, black and bronze flights) to unite to defeat him.
Galakrond was an imposing creature due to its immense size, which took such a form after constant consumption of prey. However, thanks to his insatiable appetite, he ended up devouring other proto-dragons and this act of cannibalism greatly corrupted Galakrond’s essence, as his figure soon became distorted and considerably increased in size, something that horrified his own kind. . In fact, this triggered the proto-dragons it had devoured to become undead that hunted down the rest of the surviving population.
For this reason the proto-dragons made an alliance against Galakrond, but they failed in the attempt, since their power was colossal. In view of his defeat, the guardians, servants of the Titans, decided to help the most evolved type of proto-dragons (Malygos, Nozdormu, Neltharion, Ysera and Alexstrasza) in order to preserve the future of Azeroth. The five future aspects combined their intelligence and skills to destroy Galakrond and only in this way did they achieve their goal: save Azeroth.
A glimpse into the past might give us more insight into this villain’s history in World of Warcraft, but what would really happen if Galakrond came back to life?
