The Callisto Protocol is one of the most anticipated games for the end of the year. Although many surely already have the money ready to buy their copy, some more are wondering if the work of Striking Distance Studios will reach Xbox Game Pass at launch. Faced with this question, the director of technology of the title has clarified this situation.
In a recent interview with TrueAchievements, Mark James was asked about the possibility of seeing The Callisto Protocol day one on Xbox Game Pass. Nevertheless, the game’s tech director sees this as unlikely, since the experience they will offer us would not be profitable in a service of this type. This is what he commented on it:
“I’m just saying that as a financial model, it’s a difficult one to make work as an independent studio. It’s really hard to make a third-person linear game work within those services. I’m not saying never; it is financially difficult to make it work.
It is played once in The Callisto Protocol. I think those services are meant for repetitive multiplayer and open world games. I think games like that survive well on that service.”
In this sense, James has mentioned that The Callisto Protocol It’s a linear adventure that you only experience once and that’s it.. Although it is true that a large part of the Xbox Game Pass catalog offers us multiplayer experiences that require hours and hours from a person, there are also short games that you can enjoy once and for all.
The Callisto Protocol Coming to PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and PC on December 2, 2022. In related topics, here you can see the new gameplay of the game.
Editor’s note:
It is understood if a studio does not want to bring their games to Xbox Game Pass, at the end of the day it is their decision. However, the reason that Mark James gives is strange, since we have seen games of this type on the service. What is clear is that we will have to pay for this title at launch.
