Although the slap that Chris Rock suffered during the last Oscar ceremony was surely something that hurt the actor at the time, this does not compare to the blow in popularity that he has suffered Will Smith since then. This can be mainly reflected in a recent popularity poll, where the actor has ceased to be among the top 10 positions.
According to a study by Variety using the Q Scores intelligence platform, the long-time industry standard for quantifying celebrity star power and attractiveness, the level of popularity of Will Smith went from being in the top five and top 10, to between 39 and 24.
This study is carried out on a semi-annual basis, where 1,800 US consumers aged six and older were surveyed. At the same time, Smith’s negative rating doubled, from minus 10 to 26. The average negative Q score is about 16 or 17.
For her part, Jada Pinkett Smith, the actor’s wife, has also suffered significant damage to her public image in recent months. Her positive score went from 13 to 6 and her negative score jumped from 29 to 44. In contrast, Chris Rock saw no change. Between January and July, their positive and negative scores stood at 20 and 14, respectively. However, her ranking on a separate Q Scores scale, which measures a celebrity’s level of public awareness, jumped from 66 to 84.
Undoubtedly, a clear sign that the public has not forgotten this infamous event. Although at the Oscars we have seen worse reactions from attendees, this has been the most notorious case in recent years, something that has exploded in popularity through social networks. On related topics, Will Smith issues another apology for the slap. Similarly, Chris Rock has mocked these comments.
Editor’s note:
A real shame, Will Smith went from being one of the most beloved actors in Hollywood, to a person who does not make his audience happy. It will be interesting to see how viewers’ perceptions change in the future.
