Manuelita was the name of a turtle that according to Maria Elena Walsh, its creator, lived in Pehuajó and Paris left. The truth is that this fashion for more than a decade determined that especially in kindergartens, one would like to have a turtle as a community animal, as a shared pet.
The turtle was bought in pet stores and everyone thought that there were turtle farms. This was replicated in all the cities of the Argentine Republic, especially in the most populated ones.
Not long ago, in General Rodríguez, a cougar discovered on security cameras and it is concluded that it belongs to a collector who has not one, but two cougars.
And at the same time in New York a person who had a very tiny apartment complains that he wants to get rid of his cougar and he says it before the Humane Society and the New York police authorities.
That cougar taken from nature and the turtle, in either of the two circumstances, clearly show us that wild animals should not be pets. Wild animals should not be companion animals, wild animals should not have a human guardian, the guardian of wild animals is the State of each Nation and domestic animals have a guardian – call him the owner, if you want – responsible.
Rescues
The news of rescues of wild animals multiplies all the time. Agents of the Rural and Environmental Prevention Command and the Ministry of the Environment of Jujuy they rescued 27 wild birds in that province last week. It was tried, between them, of parrots, toucans and a rabbit, that they were caged in a motorcycle repair shop, located in Saint Peter, the second most important city in the province of Jujuy.
Members of the Rural Security Department of Pinedo, Chaco, they rescued more wild animals that were in captivity. This time they found a carayá monkey, a honey bear and a guazuncho.
In the province of Córdoba, the Environmental Police division, rescued only in the month of September, almost 300 wild animals. 26 procedures were carried out to control hunting and illegal possession in different towns of Córdoba. Among the recovered animals were species in danger of extinction.
All the specimens were transferred to rescue and rehabilitation centers. 298 birds and one gray fox were recovered from captivity, in addition to 192 cages, trappers, firearms, knives, hides and hunting trophies.
