The firm has hit the nail on the head with its latest bet.
The brand, closely linked to adventure, has reached an agreement with the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC), for the installation of a whole series of electric chargers in the National Parks. In this way, those users of the truck who seek adventure and enjoy nature, they can move without fear of being left without autonomy.
Let’s see, therefore, what the announcement will consist of, what are the implications that will be behind it and, above all, why it is a differential bet for the popularization of the electric car with skills beyond driving on asphalt. Rivian has taken advantage of the measure as a marketing strategy
It is, of course, a marketing strategy to position a product which is not yet available on the market. Now, what will this collaboration agreement consist of? Apparently, according to what can be read in the specialized portal Electrek, the objective that the company has set is to include loading stations in the 56 State Parks that are recognized in the United States.
Ad has been carried out by both parties. Governor Bill Lee of Tennessee has stated that Tennessee is at the forefront of innovation and infrastructure development, and is committed to the future of the auto industry. It is, therefore, a policy that seems to be open to entering into negotiations with other manufacturers.
Rivian will offer its charging network for free in the beginning
It is also a bet that it will be open source. Thanks to the installation of these charging points, they will be able to have access to these places a higher proportion of electric cars. One of the most outstanding novelties is directly related to its access to any electric car, regardless of whether it bears the Rivian logo on the bodywork.
Even so, there are still a number of details that remain to be discovered. However, it has been known that, initially, they will not cost the user. It will be enough to go to the loading station, plug in the vehicle and wait until charging the batteries of the same. In the medium term it will have a cost, but it is expected that the price will be competitive and it will only be available to offset the electricity tariff.
A project that is delayed for a few more months
The R1T, as has been learned, will hit the market a few more months late. Yes its the same truck that took Jeff Bezos to the New Shepard ship on your adventure through space. It is a pickup model that is designed, above all, to be a benchmark in a segment that will contain several very prominent models, which will carry the Ford and Tesla logos on their plates.
This bet, however, does not depend on the production rate of the R1T and its respective variant without a rear box. Rivian is aware of the impact and potential which can have an efficient charging network. For this reason, a product will be developed to compete with manufacturers of the stature of Tesla in the medium and long term.
We will have to wait a few more months, even so, to see the first units of this model and, above all, the first charging points located in these strategic areas. As can be read on the aforementioned portal, the first cargo units will be available to the public in the fall, following construction until March next year.
