The future that reveals Black Panther: Wakanda Forever
For Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, the mother of the deceased king went from being a figure on the periphery of the throne to the very center of the narrative. The first hint of her evolution is her role as a defender of Wakanda. Following T’Challa’s death, world powers began lobbying for the kingdom to allow access to its vibranium reserves. Ramonda had to not only fight the siege, but also prove that Wakanda would never be colonized.
But the queen’s real battle was in her immediate circle. Overwhelmed with grief, Shuri, second in line and heiress to the traditional Black Panther claws, refused to take responsibility for it. for the princess, the incarnation of the protector hero of Wakanda had died with his brother and considered the position a relic. At the same time, T’Challa’s abrupt physical disappearance plunged her into legitimate doubts about her role in the monarchy. It was Ramonda who reminded her of the depth of her responsibility and, also, the importance of her duty as the visible face of power in the country.
But Ramonda also carried responsibility for a secret that could change the configuration of power in Wakanda. One that is finally revealed in the post-credits scene of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, when Nakia reveals the existence of T’Challa’s son. It was Ramonda who made sure to keep out of the realm’s, and even the world’s, attention the most valuable legacy her son left behind when he died.
The secret that holds the dynasty of the most powerful country in the world
Ramonda was in charge of fulfilling the last wishes of her son T’Challa. After becoming a father and in the midst of an illness that would eventually lead to his death, the king asked his mother to protect the heir.
And to do it by separating him from the pressures of the throne and the demands of being the protective hero of the country. Ramonda not only honored the memory and wishes of her son. She also made sure that the young T’Challa could live a peaceful life in the company of Nakia in Haiti, as shown in the post-credits scene of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.
It was a complicated decision. In the midst of a critical and conflictive situation, Ramonda knew that a son of T’Challa could balance Wakanda. He will also become the certainty of the continuity of power and inheritance. But she not only made the determination not to do it, but also to protect the secret without hesitation. So Ramonda, in the emotional mourning of her daughter and her country, became the face of Wakanda as a wounded country.
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and the sacrifice that changed history
As if all of the above were not enough, Ramonda was the trigger for Shuri to finally make the decision to become Black Panther. In the midst of Talocan’s frontal attack on Wakanda, Ramonda sacrificed her life to save Riri Williams’. Pain, anger and the desire for revenge made the princess put on her costume and assume historical responsibility for her.
Although Shuri later understands that revenge is not the way to honor her ancestors, she takes responsibility for the kingdom. In the shadow of Ramonda’s sacrifice and, especially, with the duty to embody the best of Wakanda, Shuri ends up putting aside his doubts.
