While the DC Extended Universe undergoes a remodeling about which there are still doubts, Matt Reeves advances in the construction of a BatVerse that, perhaps, generates a general enthusiasm. It is an independent narrative to the existing one and is aimed at exploring the Batman franchise through movies and series (or at least one). Is this good or bad? The answer deserves nuances.
The news of the development of a BatVerse met through Collider. The portal reported a meeting with Matt Reeves, who indicated that in the coming days he will have a meeting with James Gunn and Peter Sagran — creative leaders of the DC Extended Universe today — to discuss ideas about Batman.
This BatVerse It started with batman, the film that Matt Reeves directed and which represented a new approach to the character. Previous adaptations about the superhero favored action, the family story, and his influence over time. Reeves decided to take a more police, investigative and personal discovery perspective.
Although it is a single production, it served as a kind of aircraft carrier for a narrative that is, from the comics, diverse and immense. Because of that factor, the idea of a BatVerse it can be interesting. Especially if it develops independently of the DC Extended Universe, subtracting some commitment to other superheroes and villains.

The Batman played by Robert Pattinson has a youthful, initiation air that other adaptations, such as those by Christian Bale and Ben Affleck, did not have. That explains why his violence is almost passionate, uncontrollable, while in the other versions it is something specific: not one blow too much or too little; only the necessary ones. This perspective sets the tone of the story: it is about a superhero who is discovering himself.
the final scene of batman leaves a key phrase to understand the moment in which the protagonist finds himself: “Revenge has not changed the past. Neither mine nor anyone’s. I have to become something else. People need hope.” While those prayers are heard, the bat is on the screen helping his community during sunrise. He has failed in his attempt to defeat evil, but has found a new meaning to his purpose.
Throughout this trip, he will have to face various adversaries that will test his will and commitment to that idea. Doing an exercise of imagination in relation to the BatVersein batman at least three antagonists were featured. Carmine Falcone, Penguin, and the Joker, who could be joined by others like Two-Face, Dr. Freeze, and Bane.
Robert Pattinson’s Batman is at a narrative point where it can grow as these villains take up space within the story, either in Batman 2 or through series, like the one that is being developed about the Penguin, played by Colin Farrell. This character was one of the revelations.
His independence from the DC universe
Like the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the goal of James Gunn and Peter Safran at DC is create an integrated narrative. A system that is fed back with series and movies. These will share temporal references and facts that allow the viewer to know where he is, if he follows it faithfully.
Incorporating Bruce Wayne into the DC Extended Universe shouldn’t be a problem. On the contrary, it would provide entity and coherence. How can you not consider having someone who, perhaps, embodies the most famous superhero in the history of humanity, with permission from Spider-Man? However, this interest has a condition: support or associate his franchise with others so that they remain compact.
This could limit the growth of the characters mentioned above, in which it is convenient to include Catwoman, played by Zoë Kravitz. This intention seems to be the common idea between Matt Reeves, James Gunn and Peter Safran for the “BatVerse”. At least that’s what a comment from Reeves suggests to Collider:
“We’re supposed to meet in the next few weeks because they want to talk to me about the general plan and then hear about the BatVerse. We met to talk about all that. Look, I’m excited to hear what they’re going to do. The “BatVerse” thing, as James (Gunn) and Peter (Safran) said, is something of their own that they are allowing us to do.

Taking into account that within the Batman franchise there are enough villains and the protagonist has an infinite number of layers to explore, it is logical to want bet on its independence in relation to other franchises. Especially since the work presented through batman it has the potential to be the foundation of something greater. On the other hand, if the above is decided, this perhaps does not imply that the character is not in the DC extended universe: a new casting can always be done.
