“Today the food is a surprise”; this announcement was a recurring joke at home but real as life itself, product of our naivety freezing leftover food hoping we’d remember what was inside. After weeks we completely forgot.
The day I expected to have some delicious lentils with vegetables and found myself with leftover almond pulp from making horchata marked a turning point. The next day I changed my culinary routine by adding a new accessory to the utensil drawer, a adhesive tape which, together with a pen or marker, has become an essential for almost daily use.
Its purpose is none other than to offer a system of quick tagging, versatile and cheap, that adapts to practically any material and allows you to record the contents of containers, jars, jars, bags and boxes in a matter of seconds. Whether white or flesh-colored, self-adhesive tape adheres smoothly to plastic, glass or cardboard, and the slightly rough outer textile face makes it easy to write on.
It is most useful for quickly jotting down what we put in the freezer, date included, because you should never blindly trust your own memory when it comes to food preservation. Time flies and after freezing the food gets confused and it is not easy to identify with the naked eye, much less if the container or its lid are opaque.
We already know that the freezer is not the eternal repository for leftovers or food and that it only slows down its deterioration, and it is not advisable to keep food frozen for too many months – between six and ten, depending on the type of food. Always having a roll of tape on hand prevents rushing or laziness from being an excuse for not scoring what and when we freezeand we can give it more uses.
It is very practical for mark the contents of different containers in the pantry, such as jars of preserves or flour – it is difficult to distinguish between a pastry flour and another of force, for example -, and it makes it easier to organize and work if at a glance we see the name of the product without having to remove and open containers.
Being self-adhesive we can also use it as interim closure bags and other packaging, resists moisture and can be put on and take off without difficulty, without leaving sticky residues or pieces of paper as is often the case with ordinary paper stickers. And it avoids having to resort to permanent markers if we want to write on freezer bags, which do not go very well with a normal pen.

We also use it to leave notes on the door of the fridge, the dishwasher or a cupboard, or to take quick notes such as what temperature the oven should be at or if something needs to be bought urgently. comes out a lot cheaper than a label machineit is easier to use and can be purchased at any supermarket, pharmacy or neighborhood store.
It is also very useful when preparing meals to take away and thus distinguish between different members of the family and, of course, it also has its sanitary utility original; We’ve all gotten a little cut or burn in the kitchen.
