now that finally constantine 2 has been officially announced, there are a couple of things to discuss about its ranking. Since his genesis in the comics, the character has been defined as one of adult and violent overtones. Not only because of the theme of his stories (an exorcist demonologist who fights the forces of hell), but also because of the sarcastic-violent nature of the character.
However, when Constantine hit theaters in 2005, the film was rated PG-13. An error that, according to director Francis Lawrence, will be corrected with the sequel. The director recently explained in an interview that his constantine 2 it will not be fearful with its classification. Nor when adding the necessary doses of darkness and violence. But she also explained the reasons why she wants to achieve this, from a personal point of view.
“One of the biggest things to me about the first one was that we followed, on the part of Warner Bros., the rules for making a PG-13 movie in terms of violence, gore, language and sexuality,” he explained. “But the rating board gave us an R based on its gray zone of intensity. And my biggest regret is that we have an R-rated movie that is actually a PG-13 movie. And if I had to do an R, I would have made a real R-rated movie. It would have made it a lot scarier and a lot more violent and it would have really made it an R-rated movie.”
After that Lawrence and his team had to change a few things about the film in order to achieve the PG-13 that Warner had been promised. But that bittersweet taste never went away. Luckily, now the director promises that he will not go half measures when it comes to the setting of the sequel.
“The idea is this time, at least for me, to really go for it,” he continued. “Making a true R-rated Constantine 2 which is, I think, what people always wanted originally, not the PG-13 version that accidentally gets an R.”
In addition, the director of The Hunger Games: Catching Fire He promised that it will get a little closer to the humor of the character. From the press, the character is driven by black humor and a very poignant sarcasm. “I think John Constantine is a fun character in a dark, comedic way. And I’d like to add more of that sarcastic, cynical sense of humor to the story.”
The sequel to the hit film will once again bring together Keanu Reeves with the director. In addition the scriptwriter Akiva Goldsman, will be in charge of writing the new story. While JJ Abrams Y hannah minghellafrom Bad Robot, will be in charge of producing the tape.
The film does not yet have an official release date.
